Like my mother works as an usher for Norrell and she talked (talked? more like grilled) to some security guards before the Paula Cole concert we were going to and she told me the whole story of what they have to do. Sounds like one of the suckiest jobs that's around! Also, my sister works at a popular bar in the downtown area and I can get in for free, even though I'm underage! hehe! Here's the recipe for the whitchocolatespaceegg cookies! They're delicious and I hope everyone will enjoy them! whitechocolatespaceegg cookies Dough: 2 cups sifted all purpose flour 1 cup butter (can be easily less, I use ¾ cups) 1 egg yolk ¾ cup sour cream (an 8 oz. container is enough) Filling: ¾ cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon white chocolate chips Measure flour into bowl. Cut butter into flour with pastry blender, fork, or finger tips. Blend flour and butter together. (for better results, use hands) Add beaten egg yolk and sour cream. Mix well. When blended, shape into a ball and sprinkle with flour. Wrap well into wax paper. Chill in refrigerator for several hours (about 2 hours is enough). Combine sugar and cinnamon ingredients. Sprinkle board lightly with flour (you might have to use more flour, since the dough can be really sticky). Remove dough from refrigerator and divide into three parts. Roll out one portion at a time, making a large square about ¼ inch thick. Cut into squares. Place white chocolate chips in center of dough squares and spoon filling (sugar and cinnamon) into each square. Roll from one corner to opposite corner (you can also just fold the corners to the center, covering the filling). If you like, you can put some chocolate chips on the top of the cookies before placing the cookies on the cookie sheet. Place rolls on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven and let it chill. For better tasting results, eat cookies the next day or five hours after removing from oven. Enjoy! I was gonna write a short little post about how Wednesday night was the best night of my life and leave it at that, and then I decided to 'what-the-hell' comment on everything under the sun, but for now I think I'll settle for this, which I hope is a happy medium: I went to Liz's Philadelphia show at the TLA on Wednesday and got to meet listmembers David Perry, Matt George, Danielle (last name? sorry!), Megan Brown, and I think I saw that bald, 50-year-old guy who said he'd be there (I walked over to you and was gonna say something, but you were busy talking to other people). All the people that I met were great; I would have loved to spend the rest of that night with all of you fine people, discussing the greatness of the show and all, but time was of the essence (or so I thought at the time) and so on. At least we have e-mail. At this point, I would like to publicly thank my chauffeur extraordinaire, Julia Rios. I would not have made it to the show if it wasn't for her. She came a great distance to pick me up and treated me like a real person, not a weirdo, random psycho from the internet like other people with fear in their hearts might. Just meeting Julia and all her hippie Annapolis, MD friends was an experience I'll never forget - -- thank you! Anyway, all of us arrived at about the same time (although Matt George was the first one there, I thought) and so, with that advantage, we secured front row standing spots to the right of Liz. The slide show was pretty good, except I thought that if they had to play that many songs while they were getting shit set up, they could have added more slides instead of showing us the same ones twice. Some of the pics were really great, some were hideous (but I'm sure Liz knew what she was doing -- the one of her on a boat holding up a fish was a favorite of mine). Also, those of you who saw the one guy in the photo-booth set with Liz and Brad as Casey Rice, I think you're wrong. That guy was most likely Nash Kato. Look in the new issue of Rolling Stone, there's a picture of him. I never thought he had short hair, but he certainly more closely resembles the slide show guy than Casey Rice does... Anyway, the show was kick-ass. We were no more than, I don't know, 10 feet away from Liz. And the TLA is *so small*!!! It was like a big living room... pretty intimate, and I never thought I'd get that close to Liz Phair. Anyway, her set was great, the only song I missed was "Love Is Nothing," my fave from *wcse.* Now, onto the best 5 seconds of my life... During "Mesmerizing" (which I think could be my fave Liz song), Liz walked over in our direction, and I yelled at her and gave her the 'goat' (for those who who have forgotten or are too young to know, a 'goat' is when you hold up your index finger and pinky finger so that your hand looks like an animal's head with horns). THEN...Liz looked right at me, smiled, and gave me the goat right back!!! (I have just realized that Matt George already told this story, but I don't care). That, ladies and gentlemen, was the best moment of my life. Anyway, like I said, the show was great. Then afterwards, a bunch of us waited outside and finally got to catch up to Liz as she was hurriedly walking to her bus. She turned around and said to us: "Look, guys, I'm working on 5 hours of sleep." She clearly just wanted to get outta there. But I got her to sign a printout that David Perry made (mine said "Support System says: 'Liz Rules!'") and I offered her the idiocy "Thank you so much for giving me the goat sign during 'Mesmerizing'" to which she responded, with a typical Liz Phair giggle/guffaw (I'll call it a guffaw), "Goat sign!" So there, I made a tired Liz Phair laugh. That was the best night of my life. Now, onto other things: For those who haven't guessed yet, the chords for "Polyester Bride" start out C, G, C, G, F, G... not C#, as Colin had stated. Maybe Liz's guitar is tuned up a bit on the album, it usually is. But seeing her play this live several times, I can definitely tell you how to play this song. The verses are sort of tricky, kind of a variation on D, A, G, A... she just changes the notes of these chords a little bit. Also, for those interested, the chorus for "Space Egg" is G, C, Em, D, G, Em, C, D... I saw her very clearly playing these chords. Kinda SIMPLE, but then, Liz didn't write the music for this one. Now, some requests: 1) For the kind woman (sorry, I don't have yr name handy) who taped the Howard Stern / Courtney Love int., could you please e-mail me? I used to be a fan of Courtney/Hole, but the new album and the recent interviews I've read with Love have left me feeling sorta "blah..." about the band. I would really enjoy an intelligent interview with Courtney, so please help me out. 2) Also, to the Bostonian(s) who recorded the radio broadcast of Liz's Avalon show, PLEASE email me, please. I will pay you like, ten bucks for a copy of that show. I see on someone's setlist post that Liz played "Love is Nothing." I'm sorry I don't have yr email address so I can just email you pronto, I deleted that digest already. Please, please help me out. 3) Anyone who has the import version of *wcse*: PLEASE, please make me a copy of "Hurricane Cindy." I really wanna hear a new version of that kick-ass song. 4) To Jeff Dorion: I know we had a trade thing going for a while, and I'll have to go back through my email to see what I was supposed to do for you (I've been so busy lately, sorry!), but it appears you have a copy of "Greased Lightning." PLEASE, please can you make a tape dub of that for me (in exchange for whatever it was you wanted to get from me)?!?!?! Okay, that's all. Rock n roll, Steve "Smithers, this beer isn't working! Anyways, I was just reading the Sunday newspaper and came across an article on on our fair Liz which was quite interesting and insightful. This came as a little bit of surprise considering the reputation of this certain newspaper (there most popular feature is the "Sunshine Girl" photo on pg.3, which is a girl dressed in a rather revealing outfit). The article, however, was taken from an interview Liz did with one of their columnists, Jane Stevenson, around the time of the Lillith Fair in Toronto. If anyone is interested in reading the article it can be found at www.canoe.ca/TorontoShowbiz/03_sh1.html . Unfortuneately, the article on the web does not come complete with two photos (one of Liz performimg at Lillith Fair) that accompany the newspaper. Anyhow, only 9 more days to Liz's Toronto show!!! Can't Wait!! Now I've got to rent the movie again, just to enjoy hearing that great song behind that great scene! Mike Kaufmann, I really liked your analysis of Fuck and Run. I think you're absolutely right about what Liz is saying in this song.
