I just want my baby back And I'll be on my way." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 12:39:12 -0500 (CDT) From: leeroy Subject: chicagoticketsneeded please please please anybody looking to drop a couple tickets on a fellow liz addict? ill reimburse ya for em{plus... please im a student} . . . as long as im here, other artists besides LIZ.. sublime lisaloeb stonetemplepilots smashingpumpkins sherylcrow. byeall ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 14:18:17 -0700 (PDT) From: jganz@POMONA.EDU Subject: Re: support-system-digest V1 #1 wow. i saw liz at the mayan thursday night in la and need some sort of a forum to gush. i go to pomona college in claremont (sophomore, 19 for those of you that are still keeping up on the age thing) and while there are people here that like liz and probably even some that adore her at the same level i do (it's kind of become an obsession), i just miss being able to sit and talk about her for hours like i can with the people at home (bellingham, wa) that got into her along with me. here goes. the opening (slides of her younger and nakeder) were kind of interesting. you could really feel the anticipation in the crowd every time a song ended and the slides went off...but then music would start up again and more slides would show and all of us would let out a large collective sigh. that woman is the biggest tease. and i mean that in a genuinely affectionate way. it really primed me to see her, and when she started playing, backlit through the curtain with this sort of green throbbing light, my knees went a little weak. i am sure i had a big goofy smile on my face for the next eighty minutes (kind of a short set, but who the hell cares? she made every minute of it completely enthralling). anyway, i know that other people have said that she has lost any trace of stage fright, but i don't know that i completely agree. she did look comfortable for most of the evening, but there were times--especially when she was not playing guitar--that i don't know if she knew exactly what to do with herself. it was almost as if she had adopted some sort of mannerism from natalie merchant this summer. she seemed to want to be doing something when she wasn't playing...she moved her hands around a lot, did some dancing..at one point even did a kind of awkward stretch routine, but then she'd pick up the guitar, walk up to the mic, look some random person in the audience straight in the eye and just knock everyone right on their ass. she has the ability to be just amazingly engaging when she just lets the intimate nature of her music emerge. everyone there knew everything she played, and when she really got into whatever song she was playing, she was, appropriately enough, mesmerizing. completely. i guess that she will just figure out what her stage persona is with time. i forget that she really hasn't done this all that much, and is probably still pretty nervous about it all. she doesn't have anything to worry about. her voice was strong, the band was tight, and she seemed to be having fun the entire time. the experience really made me happy. flat out a great time. all i could manage to do afterward was glow. she's pretty damn cool. anyway, i was wondering if there had been any sort of a formal congratulations/thank you from this list to her after the release of the new album and the start of the tour. i know that we all bought cd's or records or tickets, and that--in a kind of indirect way--is a thank you, but it would be cool if we could send her a big show of appreciation from the list...i figure that if there is anyone out there who appreciates her, its us. i realize that i'm kind of rambling now, but i just thought i would put the idea out there. i don't know how it would be done (via matador? might there be a more direct route?), but it seemed like a good idea. just to let her know there are a bunch of actual people out here who think she's great. let me know what you think. i hope everyone that gets to see her has as great a time as i did. she was amazing. jacob. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 14:24:19 PDT From: "Barb Castonguay" Subject: Re: support-system-digest V1 #18 Hi.
