It seems to me that MTV is trying to be cool by having Liz on their commercials, and if they think shes so cool, why dont they play her damn videos. I'm sure at some clubs you run the risk of having the tape and recorder confiscated AND possibly being ejected from the club(and wouldn't THAT suck?!), so you might want to research the club's policies beforehand. About recording: what were you planning on using?... does it have a separate/detachable microphone?.. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Sep 1998 10:58:02 -0400 From: "Cynthia Nagle" Subject: Derek's opinion of Flower Derek, I appreciate your opinion and absolutely think you have the right to express it... but I feel compelled to express how much I disagree with you! Flower is one of my *favorite* songs on EIG. (BTW, I listened to EIG all day at work yesterday - with the volume at a discreet level, of course. I work at a CPA firm, which as you can imagine is NOT full of hip folks.) Why do I like Flower so much? It's the one song I know of (or the earliest Liz song, anyway) that gives an honest voice to some particular feelings I experience. It's full of truth. A woman (or a man) has to be able to express these feelings sometimes, and I appreciate the fact that Liz has crafted such an outlet. And I don't mean this in a snickering way, I mean this sincerely. No matter how many times I listen to this song, I never think of it as disgusting or silly or purely intended for shock value. I just see truth in it, and "I, I, I, I, I, I like it." However, it's the only Liz shirt I've ever seen, so that's that. By the way, I didn't mean there are any similarities between Liz and Marilyn Manson--but Tom Lord-Alge DID mix both of their albums. Give them your business. As to the book... I didn't think it was very good. It has its moments, but it's pretty tedious and wannabe artsy, overall. But it's definitely worth buying for the Liz novelty value (e.g., Joy discusses Exile at length at one point), if not for its literary worth. Now, I wonder what I've done that will make this post bounce? 'Cause there must be *something*...
