Support system is growing on me. I think it is good, just when others make us think we are going crazy because we have twenty laminated liz pictures on the walls in our dorm rooms, or we are constantly talking about Liz this and Liz that, or whatever, we can flip on those computers, and get a little "support" to remind us that we are not the only people who listen to "Perfect World" on repeat, and we can prove to those heretics that Liz does indeed exist and there are other people who LOVE her!!!! So in short, I think the name works... jenny ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 11:27:41 -0400 From: jimmy Subject: michigan opener? got my pontiac, mi, ticket! woooha. i've been a fan since christmas 93 and this will be my first time seeing her. at long long last! my question is -- have openers been announced? is it different in each city? im way behind and havent read the list much lately so im sorta outta the loop. xjimmy p.s. i see there's an age poll -- im 20. was a sophomore in high school when i first heard liz, at the ripe old age of 15 and she;s still one of my faves (i can't say that about any other band i liked in 10th grade - i.e. hole, pumpkins, tori amos, etc.) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 11:38:37 EDT From: DirkDuckie@aol.com Subject: DC Liz Show The 930 Club is on 9th and V st. I got into her after reading a review/article in CMJ (the mag with the music cd in it) so thanks to them! I completely fell in love with her music (being a guitar player I crave that lo-fi sripped down Fender sound of hers) and in love with her attitude (who would think a woman could have such thoughs - whoo-hoo!) and of course her (shes is beautiful). After listening to her throught some of the roughest periods in my life (my wife can't stand her - reminds her of our bad times) to some of the best (what does the term trippin balls mean to you?) she is simply the best. Consider yourselves lucky if you're going to one of her shows, Florida, alas, seems Liz-less at least for now. And some advice for Michael the 50 y/o with the 16 y/o daughter..take her man!....anything you can do to further your relationship with your daughter is good..turning her onto liz is better and doin both is best. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 10:21:17 PDT From: "Jason Long" Subject: [none] Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that I am not at home this weekend, so I will be unable to forward any messages that bounce on their way to the list until I get back on Monday. So, if you send a message and it somehow doesn't find its way to the list, no need to worry -- it'll probably be waiting for me and I will forward it as soon as I'm able to. I'm extremely excited right now because I've got three tickets for Liz's Toronto show -- I really can't wait for this concert! Is anyone else planning to go who hasn't spoken up yet? It'd be great if as many of us from the list as possible could all attend and meet up either before or after the show. I'm amazed at how low the price of the tickets was. $12 plus service charges to see Liz is a bargain, in my opinion. I really was expecting the tickets to cost a little more than that. I really hope that they'll have some tour t-shirts available, as I'd love to get one. The shirts they were selling at the Lilith dates were terrible -- I hope they have better ones this time out... Thrilled to find it. The "age poll" is pretty timely since I've been thinking recently that I'd surely be the oldest girly at the up-coming Warfield show in SF. I'm turning 39 (yikes) in October. I've been a Liz fan since stumbling onto whip-smart 4 years ago and falling madly for whatever other Liz I could get ahold of. So nice to find out there are older old farts out there! And equally wonderful to hear of others connecting to Liz from the age of 11! There's something so cool and so right about that. Anyway, I love the new cd and discover new top-tens at each listen of every Liz album. I'm so excited about seeing her in just a few days. It's been fun reading everyone's thoughts, ideas and opinions. Thanks to Jason for putting in the time and effort to keep this list up, no matter what the freaking name is! - - Jo Ann ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 14:34:20 -0400 From: "Chris" Subject: RE: support-system-digest V1 #9 <> Wouldn't this be impossible without benefit of time travel? - -Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 16:35:07 EDT From: RainyLemon@aol.com Subject: Re:subscribe sibscribe BlueAugora@aol.com and please delete RainyLemon@aol.com from list. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 14:34:22 -0400 From: "Chris" Subject: age I'm 35. I read an article about new albums from Liz and the Juliana Hatfield 3 in Newsweek back in 93. Their description of Liz' music sounded like something I would like, so I bought Exile, loved it, and have been a fan ever since. Ironically, I'll be seeing both Liz and Juliana Hatfield at the 9:30 Club here in DC next month. - -Chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 15:01:19 -0400 From: "Chris" Subject: 9:30 Club location >And I plan on being at the 9:30 Club show in DC. (The club's not on K Street anymore, is it?) It never was on K St. You must be confusing it with the Bayou, on the waterfront in Georgetown. The 9:30 CLub used to be at 930 (hence the name) F St, NW, around the corner from Ford's Theater and the Hard Rock Cafe. A few years ago it moved to 815 V St, NW, just a block or two west of Georgia Ave., near Howard University Hospital. (Howard University Hospital, btw, was built on the site of old Griffith Stadium, where the first Washington Senators (now the MN Twins) used to play, and where Mickey Mantle hit the supposedly longest home run ever in the history of Major League Baseball back in the 50's.) But why do you think WCSE shows Liz is not much like the characters she sings about? Why such a division between a violent thought or statement and violent action? What's really important is that the violent thought is expressed, something that is unusual for women to be able to do. Questions for the general mailing list public: What does the song title refer to? What do people think "get out of the business" means? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Sep 1998 23:04:35 EDT From: AngelLieb@aol.com Subject: Many Thanks Don't know why, but I'm in a really good mood and would just like to say thanks to Jason for his hard work of keeping the list going. It's really nice to be able to talk to other fans of Liz and hear what they have to say about her. This list is still my fave, I know I've said this a million times, but I love saying it! I love this list! Another reason as to why I'm so happy, I just got three WCSE posters from the Blockbuster Music in my area. For some strange reason I thought I'd give them a call to see if they still had them, I just happened to call at the right time. The guy told me they just took them down and that if I wanted them, I'd have to pick them up before they closed today. Of course, I asked for him to hold them for me and that I'd be there after I got off from work. When I hung up the phone, I let out this huge scream of excitement, that my brother asked me if I was all right. Now the next thing to do: wait for Liz to come down to Florida to get her to sign it. I'm a 19 year old who's been listening to Liz for about 4 years. Most of the fans I know are my age or a little bit older. When I saw her at Lilith the most vocal supporter I noticed (other than myself) was this guy who looked like a player, was wearing a Whip-Smart t-shirt, and screaming how hot she was and how much he wanted her to play "Flower". (I was a little disillusioned.. I don't know if I should have been). I've heard a lot of people (esp. the so-called "experts"), explain Liz's fans as people who can really relate to what she's saying. To an extent that's true for me--esp. w/ EIG--but I know there's more than that. I've definitely heard her songs and been like, "Oh my god, girl! Someone finally understands!!", but I think I most appreciate her honesty and the fact that she's true to herself and what's going on in her life. As much as I love 'em, I personally like the fact that she's not singing songs w/ a "Fuck and Run" theme over and over again. To me that's what really sets her apart from so many of her contemporaries. I can't relate as well now, but I can appreciate more.(Sorry if this idea's been expressed over and over..I didn't get support-system/6'1" when I was home from school). My ten favorite songs of the moment (in no particular order): White Chocolate Space Egg, Stratford-On-Guy, Nashville, Johnny Feelgood, Johnny Sunshine, Divorce Song, Strange Loop, Perfect World, Jealousy, Fuck and Run And does anyone know if both Chicago shows are sold-out? I got a ticket for the Monday show today at 1 and the Sunday show was already sold out. :) ElizaBeth ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V1 #12 ***********************************
