I wish I had been around during the voting session >(if there was one) so I could have voiced my opinions before it was too >late. Although I haven't been particularly religious in reading 6'1", I'm pretty sure there wasn't a vote. I seem to recall back when Jason was starting the list, the name was kicked around. Personally, thinkin' back to my suggestion back then.... I would've preferred something like Whipsmart as a counterpoint to the Guyville list... I believe my reasoning way back when, I think this list tended to have... well, smarter folks than at Guyville... ;-) hehe. Well, maybe not quite that, but because it was purely digest form and moderated, people tended to think a little more before they posted. heheh I don't have any problems whatsoever with the new name.. I never did understand the reasoning to 6'1" (how is that really Liz related? - yes, she has a song by that name... but what else? She isn't 6'1" herself... a more appropriate name would've been 5'2"... ;-) ). At least Jason got to choose a name that he wanted... unlike the list I run where it was a democratic vote and somehow, I wound up with a name I personally felt was inappropriate (since it could refer to any list... even the Monkees of all things... ) Weird part is, I wasn't even around when the vote took place and when I got back to the list, all of a sudden, there was a different name. A rating >for television, movies, and soon to come are ratings for concerts and music. >Sucks huh? Hope someone else will agree. Hrmm... I don't recall reading any ratings, but then again, I haven't read too many reviews of WCSE. It all depends on the context of the rating... is it being used as a guide for parents to buy the album for their kids, or is it being used to denote it's a "tamer" album than Guyville was? I don't think it's particularly useful in any case - most people who would buy Liz aren't likely to be under 13 anyways (I could be wrong)... On the other hand, parents who've heard of Liz's previous outings may be hesitant to pick up the album for their kids and on the flip side, the .. umm... immature segment of her fans that think she's cool just because she has songs like Flower woiuld be turned away... I dunno.... don't mind me... just rambling... ;-) One thing that does bother me - this month's Spin with Hole on the cover. I don't remember what page it's on, but there was a wee paragraph in there about Sarah McLachlan being at some function with industry types to "celebrate" Lilith. They go on to mention that Liz was there... but whoever wrote it, was fairly spiteful.... calling Liz a Lilith wagon jumper and implying the only reason she was at the function while others on the Lilith bill weren't was because of all the media types there and that she wanted to promote WCSE. Forgive me if I'm wrong... but wasn't Liz asked to join Lilith... and didn't the Lilith promoters as well as media constantly bring up the fact that Liz's presence added some diversity to the line-up that a lot of people complained it lacked last year? and Robin asks.... >Who was it that thinks the majority of Liz Phair fans >are under 21? Please can we take a poll, I am feeling >like quite an outcast if that is the case. Please, a >poll would make me feel better. Ummm... a highly dubious conclusion. Considering a large proportion of her fans have been around since Guyville or earlier... Personally, I've yet to meet a Liz fan under 21... mind you, I haven't met many at all... ;-/ , but that's another story altogether. I could get into a whole sociology spiel about demographics, but I have a feeling I might offend some, so I won't... ;-) toodles...
