However, as a music venue it works... sound is pretty good, you've got comfortable seats, and it is somehow fairly intimate for a good-sized theater. It's located at 6th & Blanchard. Ticketmaster tickets are "ADULT" but they say that is a price category... there is nothing in their system re "21 & over" or "All Ages". The phone response I got is that their phone rep. "assumes" therefore that September 28 is open to all ages. The person answering the phone long after the recorded messages about small, local shows says KingCat has nothing to do with the Liz date (they just rented the theater). She says, however, the show is "All ages". I did not get her name or social security number. I am taking my 16-year old daughter (I think). I am hoping Liz will really cut loose on this last West Coast date before facing the Eastern Seabord. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 08:34:38 GMT From: "Julia Rios" Subject: my incredibly sad cd player story... i love this list. love it. really. but the point of this post, something i need help with. for some unknown reason my cd player ate wcse (and is halfway done eating portishead's dummy). when i say "ate," i mean it scratched the disc all the way around so that it plays up until track eight and quits. no more. no shitloads of money or any of the other very cool songs for the second half of the disc. has anyone got any idea what is wrong with my player and how it can be fixed? i mean i obviously have to rebuy wcse, but i would like it not to get eaten a second time around... I get it, but Support System sounds like it could be any kind of computer-related mailing list. I don't think it's Liz Phairish enough. If 6'1" was a problem, why couldn't we have written Six-Feet-One or something like that. I wish I had been around during the voting session (if there was one) so I could have voiced my opinions before it was too late. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 12:11:22 -0400 From: "Jennifer Sayler" Subject: webpage Hi this is Jenny. Yesterday I published my very own Liz Phair site at http://www.saylerfamily.com/lizphair.htm I think that is the right address:) Anyways, there is not much there, but if you wanna check it out you can, and give some suggestions as to what else I can add. I have a whole bunch of pictures and some other misc. cool stuff that I will scan around Thanksgiving when I go home from school. So anyways, there it is, thanks!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 15:58:29 PDT From: "DarkSide oftheMoon" Subject: [none] Another review of WCSE for your consideration, This is from Weekly Planet, a local indie/club scene/alt issue rag that circulates around the Tampa Bay area (and elsewhere I assume)? She even made the top review spot with a pic of her new album too! August 22 - Sept 2 Issue Liz Phair - Whitechoclatespaceegg Matador/Capitol One-time indie-rock smut grrrl Liz Phair who at 26, stood the pop scene on its ear with her lo-fi and sexually frank debut Exile in Guyville - returns after a four year hiatus with a third album, Whitechocolatespaceegg, a superb effort that brings considerably more edge and attitude to the table than the higher profile Lilith Fair. Now 31, married and the mother of a 1 1/2 year old son, Phair has discarded her reckless "Fuck and Run" stance in favor of a sound thats hookier, with more refined vocals (although still charmingly imperfect) and more mature lyrical themes. That said, the woman still rocks. WCSE exhibits an impressive range. The title track is a discordant slab of neo-psychedelia with a sludgy groove. The closing crescendo to "Big Tall Man" recalls Rumours-era Fleetwod Mac. "Johnny Feelgood", a tongue-in-cheek account of a woman addicted to her selfish and abusive boyfriend, barrels along with a Stonsey chug. "Perfect World" is a sublime slice of luminous folk-pop. Phair takes a particularly sharp turn with "Baby Got Going", a quasi-train song fueled by bleating blues harmonica. Over the course of 16 tracks - from mini-epics ("Uncle Alvarez", "Only Son") to funky trifles ("Headache") to a nose-tweaking shot at the indie-or-die mind-set ("Shitloads of Money") - this disc is ALL good. How many of today's rock albums can you say that about? Four and a half out of Five stars..... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 21:50:38 EDT From: AngelLieb@aol.com Subject: Quit rating Liz! Just wanted to drop a few thoughts that have been ticking me off lately. Everytime I read an article about Liz, there's always something about WCSE being rated PG-13. I don't know why, but it just ticks me off to know that here in America, we have to live our entertainment joys by a rating. A rating for television, movies, and soon to come are ratings for concerts and music. Sucks huh? Hope someone else will agree. Another thing, people often mistake Liz for Sheryl Crow. I know, it happened to me before I even got into Liz, but does anyone think they look anything alike? The only thing I can think of is they have really strong jaw lines. oh well, I'm not going to get into the subject of anatomy here!
