I watched Xena and B5, but we would stand in the doorway, waiting for the Prisoner to be over so we could rush out to whatever engagement we had. B5 and Xena could be caught in reruns, but the Prisoner was always on the edge of cancellation. The story grew from week to week. I think the times influenced it too. Yes, it was weird, but the only show I disliked was the copout at the end. Merideth, you know that The Prisoner was the next step from the show Secret Agent, right? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 23:38:41 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: b/how the ny times thinks the show should end >Merideth, you know that The Prisoner was the next step from the show Secret >Agent, right? No, I didn't. In fact I've never heard of Secret Agent. Was Patrick McGoohan in that too? An ITC show, it had just begun it's fourth season (two episodes--now in color!) when the plug was pulled. One story I've read is that McGoohan thought the show had already run it's course, and when a pitch for THE PRISONER got a positive response, McGoohan served his notice. He has claimed that the character he played in THE PRISONER was never intended to be that of the earlier series, but the distinction doesn't seem particularly relevant, given the identical nature of their occupations. SECRET AGENT ran in England as DANGER MAN. It had a cool theme by Edwin Astley ("High Wire") that occasionally showed up within episodes, serving as transition music under scene changes. When the show was sold for airing in the U.S., Johnny Rivers was called on to compose a rockin' theme song for the youthful American viewing market. Thus, "Secret Agent Man." meredith wrote: > >> Merideth, you know that The Prisoner was the next step from the >> show Secret Agent, right? > > No, I didn't. In fact I've never heard of Secret Agent.
