Hilarious moment. Just the right mixture of surprise and disbelief in Faith's mien at the thought of it. And Spike's vehement rejection of the notion that, just because he's a vampire with a soul, he might be _anything_ like Angel . . . classic. Interesting job, the writers are doing, juggling two reformed "bad guys" like this, while keeping their appeal alive. > Faith and Spike. Tremendous. Faith and Buffy. Quite satisfying. > Faith and Giles. As expected. Faith and Dawn. Short but strong. > (But no Faith and Xander. And where was Anya?) I thought the under-credit, Faith-and-Willow scene in the hospital was revealing. The old Faith's "Forget it, 't's cool, I get by" (regarding not being informed about the plot to completely extinguish the Slayer line) would have held an undercurrent of screw-you-guys hardness, burying the hurt; this was delivered with acceptance and eye contact. She's still got the Faith 'tude, but she's also carrying that weight of maturity we saw on the Angel episodes. It suits her. Eliza Dushku's doing an excellent job. > Very swell. And, of course, Xander's, er, standout line, "I'll be right out, got a . . . a leg cramp." > That said...a very grim episode. Going to be hard to watch a > second time, what with the carnage and all. Interesting that Willow was at Xander's bedside > (though Kennedy was only slightly injured, as we saw). I yelled out loud ("God, no!") when Xander's eye was put out. In the aftermath, I'm leary about what Caleb said while he was doing it. Has that statement been made (that Xander is "the one who sees") anywhere else besides in his conversation with Dawn at the end of "Potential"? I think it might have gone by at least once more in a later episode, but am not certain. What's got me curious is how Caleb knew that. From the First, sure, but when did the First pick that tidbit up? C'mon, Stillpoint Brain Trust--please, if you could--a little help here. > My burning question is: who would have played the preacher if > =Firefly= hadn't been canceled? Fillion is quite good, turning what all too easily could have been a cliche into a chilling, involving character. Defeating Caleb will very likely rely on turning his own women-unclean psychosis around on him in some fashion. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 13:51:14 -0400 From: Robert Stacy Subject: Re: b/dirty girls Robert Stacy wrote: > > "Donald G. Just reviewed the scene with Xander's pep talk, when he's giving tips and, uh, pointers for battling vampires and bringers. RHONA: What if it's something else? XANDER: Could happen. Something otherworldly. Here's a handy rule. Don't go for the flashy tentacles just because they're wavin' 'em about, an' tryin' to get attention. Go for the center. [Points out each feature on himself with his right hand.] Brain, heart, and eyes. Everything's got eyes. I missed this foreshadowing the first time. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 12:15:44 -0700 From: "marty" Subject: Re: b/dirty girls As did I. Yikes. If the First were completely omniscient, there might not have been much of a need to pretend to be Clare (?) a while back. BTW, has there ever been a trustworthy character in the Buffyverse with a strong southern-US accent? I missed this foreshadowing the first time. - -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 18:47:05 -0700 From: "Berni Phillips" Subject: Re: b/dirty girls From: "Robert Stacy" > > > > Time for > > > > some of > > > > that pesky > > > > spoiler space > > > > (is it true > > > > the episode > > > > didn't run in > > > > the Northwest > > > > tonight?) > > > > Anyway... > > My favorite funny moment was Andrew's Story of Faith told to the Potentials. All those shots, some of them almost glam shots, of Faith in season 3, then it segues into her fighting Mr. Spock. That was hysterical. Unfortunately, the good feeling I got from the lighter stuff turned to a sick, queasy horror by the end of the episode. I found it =very= upsetting, and because of the lighter stuff in the beginning, I was not prepared for what happened. I'm still quite upset about Xander losing his eye, and how they showed it. It was much to graphic for me. (And, while I certainly don't wish this on Xander, I thought that Caleb was the kind of guy who would have gone for both eyes. Unless he's toying with him and wants more parts later.) > > > Very swell. Good writing for Faith, and the other people in the > > scenes with her. I wonder if this is going to embitter Xander, having something terrible happen to him after he'd given that pep talk. > And, of course, Xander's, er, standout line, "I'll be right > out, got a . . . a leg cramp." When we saw the very beginning of the episode with the not-seen-before Potential on Xander's bed, I turned to David and said, "Dream?" By the time the second came in and they both declared they'd never been with a man before, we both said, "Dream!" It didn't need to get to the "we've never been with each other in front of a man before" part. > I yelled out loud ("God, no!") when Xander's eye was put > out. I think it might have > gone by at least once more in a later episode, but am not certain. I commented on that, too. Is The First omniscient? That was a scene with just Dawn and Xander. Is the Summers house bugged or is The First telepathic? And what else can Caleb do? According to TV Guide, he's going to be with us for a while. > The same thought crossed my mind, Don. I didn't recognize him because the character was so different. Still =really= upset about what happened to Xander, Berni P.S. After that "we'll only take the Potentials who have been tested," why was the non-English-speaking Chinese girl with them? Hello! They can't communicate with her -- that's a very bad situation to take into a fight. (I know, the real answer is that she's a guest star and in the credits. And the lack of communication is funny.) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 22:34:54 -0400 From: "jzitt@metatronpress.com" Subject: Re: b/dirty girls Original Message: - ----------------- From: Berni Phillips bernip@ix.netcom.com Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 18:47:05 -0700 To: stillpt@smoe.org Subject: Re: b/dirty girls From: "Robert Stacy" > > > > Time for > > > > some of > > > > that pesky > > > > spoiler space > > > > (is it true > > > > the episode > > > > didn't run in > > > > the Northwest > > > > tonight?) > > > > Anyway... > > > P.S. And the lack of communication is funny.) Maybe she *does* understand, and is a stooge for the First. It would be a good ploy, like Bernando from "Zorro" pretending to be deaf. (Ack, I'm starting to sound like Andrew.) - -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V5 #72 ****************************
