Keller" Subject: b/First Date What am I doing up at this hour? you may well ask. Well, I went to sleep not long after =Buffy= for various reasons, and I'm (temporarily) awake again. So a few words about last night's episode. (And be very afraid: I'm cooking up a long post on =last= week's episode, which I finally watched again a few days ago.) That's just about enough spoiler space but we'll make sure. Another very good episode, I thought. Only =Buffy= would have a teaser which serves as the denouement for the two threads left hanging last week and play them purely for comedy. I can't say I'm =entirely= satisfied with the solution for Giles' survival, given how long they delayed it, but I'm not sore about it, either. Giles just stopped in mid-sentence and saved himself. Let's move on. No suspense for me on the other matter either, as I said: of =course= Buffy was going to have the chip removed. Well done to put her in opposition to Giles on the matter, I thought. Should be interesting to see that play out. Also pure comedy (except for the torture) was the Xander thread. Ha ha, Xander goes on a date with another demon! Who'd a thunk it? (Well, Xander, beforehand. Which was part of the comedy.) Side note: I need to research this thoroughly to make sure I'm right, but do you know how many times this makes in the show's history that Buffy has saved Xander at the end? Only three. Doesn't seem like that could possibly be true, n'est pas? And bully for Andrew. It looked like he was "weak and giving in to evil" as Amy put it about Willow last week, but he misled us (and the First). Maybe he's redeemable after all. (He even got a "well done" from Dawn, no easy task.) Good to see Danny Strong again, doing his usual fine job. But the best part of the episode was finding out the real deal about Principal Wood. A good guy, but a badass. I'm pleased with the character development, and the very interesting progress of the relationship between him and Buffy (whatever its eventual nature). The twist about his mother and Spike puts =him= in opposition to Buffy, too, of course. The Forces of Good have Issues to Deal With in addition to Fighting Evil. Wouldn't be fun if it wasn't complicated, right? And Giles' "Let's get serious" speech was the proper note to close out on. Can't figure out =what= in the world is going on next week, but only a week to wait (and another episode on the 25th, it seems; but a long wait after that.) ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V5 #30 ****************************
