And that's what it is. I had misremembered which song on the album it was. When I starting playing the tape on the way to work, I discovered that it was "Early One Morning," not "The Gentle Maiden." I still couldn't make out that word I couldn't remember. Dame Kiri was pulling a Joan Sutherland, distorting the vowels. I did a Google search, once I had the correct title, and found the refrain was "Do not deceive me/ Oh, never leave me./ How could you use a poor maiden so?" "Use" was the word I couldn't get.
