I agree, but the demon who gave him his soul back doublecrossed him. I felt it was pretty clear that happened, but I might have read more into that last shocked expression than was there. Spike does comment that Angel never told him what it was like with a soul. (and Spike really should have specified removal of chip. BTW, he has always been able to hit Buffy, a plot line that has not been resolved.) > Anyway, the suffering on the cross had some interesting resonance with the > atonement issues that afflict a vampire who regains his soul.... And he looked so yummy on that cross. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Oct 2002 08:46:08 -0500 (CDT) From: allenw Subject: Re: b/from below it will devour... That's certainly a popular interpretation, and it was originally my own; however, several statements from M.E. personnel have claimed that no, they were just misleading the audience. Which Spike's speech seems to confirm. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Oct 2002 07:07:37 -0700 From: "marty" Subject: Re: b/from below it will devour... > That's certainly a popular interpretation, and it was originally my own; > however, several statements from M.E. personnel have claimed that no, they > were just misleading the audience. Haven't been keeping up with the gossip. btw, I will be out of the country for the next three Buffys, but they are going to be taped. Which Spike's speech seems to confirm. I interpreted Spike's expression to be "That's really, really painful!!" I thought he got what he came for. Hi, > That's certainly a popular interpretation, and it was originally my own; >however, several statements from M.E. personnel have claimed that no, they >were just misleading the audience. Which Spike's speech seems to confirm. Wait, misleading how? He was really going to get his soul back?! If that is indeed the case, then I'm disappointed. I think the common interpretation, that he was going to get the chip out (and thus be "as he was before", i.e. a vampire capable of eating humans) but got caught in the "be careful what you wish for" trap, is much more powerful than "Spike went to get his soul back so Buffy would love him". ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Rachael Sage, Sunday, 10/6 at 4 pm ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Oct 2002 21:30:11 -0400 From: meredith Subject: f/our mrs reynolds Hi, Joss wrote this week's _Firefly_, huzzah! It's all there ... the multiple laugh-out-loud moments, the seemingly insignificant bits early that turn out to be significant later, the "ohshit" moments at the end of each act, the unexpected twist in the middle ... The characters are solidifying quite nicely. And just when I was thinking, "Gina Torres and the geeky pilot have *zero* chemistry", boom, the geeky pilot said "most people don't get Zoe and me." Thank you, Joss. One wonders just what the Companion is up to ... I definitely got the feeling when Mal came into her quarters while she was doing that schedule thing on her console, she was doing more than just lining up her clients for the next month. (One thing I am still having trouble with, in case that's not clear, is the characters' names. :}) ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Rachael Sage, Sunday, 10/6 at 4 pm ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Oct 2002 21:39:20 -0400 From: meredith Subject: b/once more on the charts Hi, Here's an interesting tidbit: the soundtrack to _Once More, With Feeling_ debuted on the Billboard charts at #49. :) ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Rachael Sage, Sunday, 10/6 at 4 pm ============================================== ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V4 #145 *****************************
