Could be good. I hope so. I also hope the advance buzz I've seen is wrong: word is that the industry folks aren't expecting it to last long. Apparently since Fox axed the pilot and made Joss re-shoot, there was nothing available to send to prospective advertisers so they could see what the show is going to be like. (Similarly, reviewers haven't had anything to review, so it's been omitted from quite a few of the season previews I've seen around.) Advertisers don't like to commit to anything blind. Fox was able to sell ad space to get it started, but the feeling out there seems to be that they don't yet have any long-term advertising commitments for the show, which is usually a recipe for disaster. The Friday night time slots are the ones Fox has historically used to condemn a show to a premature death (see: _Millenium_, _Sliders_, _Freakylinks_, _Dark Angel_) -- the only Fox show that has ever been successful on Friday nights was _X-Files_, and they moved it to Sunday once they realized it wasn't going to go away. IMHO, if Fox really wanted _Firefly_ to succeed, they would have placed it on Sunday in the old _X-Files_ slot, trusted Joss, and let him keep his original pilot episode intact. I just hope Fox doesn't screw _Firefly_ like they did _Dark Angel_ (or like TNT just did to _Witchblade_ and SciFi to _Farscape_). Joss doesn't deserve that. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Annie Gallup, Saturday, 9/28 at 8 pm ============================================== ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V4 #132 *****************************
