Rather than rehashing the album version, however, "Son of Three" is actually a completely re-recorded version of the song. The single will be backed by a cover of the theme to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a staple of the band's summer live sets. According to a report in New Musical Express, the producers of Buffy liked the Breeders' take on the theme music so much they're hoping to rope Kim and Kelley Deal into an upcoming episode of the show. A live version of "Safari," recorded in Amsterdam earlier this year, will round out the single. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 18:22:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Todd Huff Subject: Re: Restless redux > >Buffy: We're not demons. > >Adam-as-man: Is that a fact? > >Make what you want out of that. Not a man among us can remember. The "giving things names" is a biblical allusion (something Adam had to do in the Garden). The "Not a man among us can remember" is certainly more interesting. Reminds me a bit of "we are legion". In the Buffyverse, demons certainly do possess people, and Adam was made up of more than one demon (or man). Yahoo! Interesting! I missed the rerun (though I suppose there's no reason why I couldn't go look at it on tape). >Willow's Dream: Not a lot here. Tara's "Everyone is >wondering about the real you" _might_ be a reference >to Willow's future transformation, but is probably >just typical anxiety stuff, like most of this >sequence. I had originally taken this to mean something about her anxiety at coming out as a lesbian ... oftentimes when a young woman does that, she gets a "this is just a phase you're going through" reaction, i.e. "this can't possibly be the real you". >Xander's dream: More to work with here. In fact, there >is so much in one part that I wonder if Joss wasn't >actually looking back at it when he wrote "Tabula >Rasa". Oh yes. Of all the dream sequences, this is the one that has proved the most prescient so far. >Giles has to choose between being a Watcher (watching >Spike pose, in fact) and having a family life (Olivia >with an empty pram). He chooses the former, but since >he's gone back to England I wonder if he'll also end >up choosing the latter. Perhaps we'll see or hear >about Olivia again. Interesting. I certainly wouldn't mind. *** See message end for a spoilerish thought about this ... >Buffy's dream: Joyce is living in a hole in the wall. >Perhaps foreshadowing her death, perhaps something >else or nothing. As David pointed out, I thought this was a reference to "School Hard", but I suppose it could also have been a bit of foreshadowing as well. >Buffy: We're not demons. >Adam-as-man: Is that a fact? >Make what you want out of that. I'm too tired and >already (I fear) rambling. I do hope this adds up to something, when combined with the fact that Spike was able to hurt Buffy without his chip kicking in. We still don't know quite where this whole Slayer thing comes from. Maybe it is a demon? I had thought we might get some clues in the past season, but none were forthcoming. Hopefully we'll get lucky this year, before the series ends. >The big stuff is Guide Tara's dialogue. "You think you >know. What's to come. What you are. You haven't even >begun." Very general warning, there, and I hope we >find out what it comes down to. See above -- sounds like another piece of the puzzle. >Of course, "Be back before dawn/Dawn" was the biggest >of all. Buffy looks at the bed and wonders who it is >made up for. Right. "Little Miss Muffet, counting down from 7-3-0" (which was, of course, 3-6-5 at that point). David added: >Even more cryptic: >Riley: A lot of filing, giving things names. >Buffy (to Adam): What was yours? >Adam: Before Adam? Not a man among us can remember. This line immediately brings to my mind the Adam of Genesis. Before Adam, there was no man, so of course no man could remember what his name was. (Does that make sense to anyone besides me? :) End Of Message *** SPOILER ALERT I hear we're going to see some of Giles in England at the start of the season, so we could perhaps run into Olivia there. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 21:55:44 -0400 From: meredith Subject: b/soundtrack Hi, I don't think I mentioned this here ... the soundtrack to "Once More With Feeling" is due on CD from Rounder Records on September 17. I watched the broadcast of "Restless" this weekend as well, though I could view the tape any time I choose. Giles's musical sequence in the Bronze struck me as the prototypical spark for "Once More, With Feeling." And the closing shots of that sequence--ASH on his hands and knees, fishing his pocket watch out of the tangle of wires as flashes of backlight silhouette the First Slayer--still give me chills, no matter how many times I see it. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V4 #111 *****************************
