Bratman" Subject: b/Season 2 DVD Anybody else actually gone ahead and bought the DVD, which came out on Tuesday? I watched most of the first three episodes, plus Joss's commentary on "Innocence", and noted two things worth mentioning: 1. There's a few scenes in "Some Assembly Required" where the color looks a bit off: Daryl and Buffy go all green during their fight, for instance. Is that in the original, or are there reports elsewhere (I presume some of you read more BTVS stuff than I do) that there's a flaw in the DVD? 2. During the commentary on "Innocence", Joss remarks on the "cheesiness" of the army base exteriors set, and then, rather like a BBC producer talking about "Dr. Who", goes on to defend the cheesy as, to an extent, a characteristic of the show's style. And I thought - I wonder if that's the real explanation for the Cheese Guy in "Restless"? Elsewhere in the commentary, Joss praises the actors, remarks on the long-shot cinematography and the lighting design, and tells us that a) the bedroom confrontation between Buffy and the dissembling Angel was originally shot outside at night, with their coats on, but just didn't work that way; and b) CGI flames were added to the famous explosion to hide the fact that the fake rocket actually bounced off the statue of the Judge it was fired at. By the way, when Xander opens the box with the rocket launcher and asks Buffy, "Do you want me to show you how to use it?", and she replies, "Yes, I would," my mind goes back to a famous photo of Dan Quayle posed holding a rocket launcher: he had it cradled upside down with the business end pointed directly at his own elbow. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 10:29:45 -0700 From: "Marta Grabien" Subject: Re: b/Season 2 DVD It arrived yesterday and I haven't had time to look at it yet. May have a moment or two today and will let you know about the green. The lab lights are green. I did notice that the colors in all of the episodes are intensified so the green is much more obvious. If it were a flaw in the DVD the light would not be coming from just one place. > > 2. During the commentary on "Innocence", Joss remarks on the "cheesiness" I haven't found that commentary yet. I did look at disc 6, where there is a lot of special stuff, but I haven't found that interview yet. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 15:14:41 -0700 From: "David S. I'm not sure what lab lights might be responsible for that. >> 2. During the commentary on "Innocence", Joss remarks on the "cheesiness" > >I haven't found that commentary yet. When you choose an episode from the main menu, you get a second menu for the individual episode, with "play episode", "chapters", etc. options. Well, for "Innocence" and the other episodes with commentary, there's an additional option for the commentary. There's a list given somewhere of which episodes have commentaries; IIRC it's on the outer box. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 20:12:05 -0700 From: "Marta Grabien" Subject: Re: b/Season 2 DVD > It's not on the final disc, but on the disc with the episode itself on it.\\ > Well, for "Innocence" and the other episodes with commentary, there's an > additional option for the commentary.
