Just thought I'd pass that tidbit along. (Yes, I'll be watching. ) ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 01:27:17 -0500 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: b/emmy lobbying On Wed, May 29, 2002 at 08:38:31AM -0700, Marta Grabien wrote: > > Actually, on a whim, I just did a "Buy it now" of a VCD version from > > there, since I'm curious about whether and how well my DVD player > > plays VCDs. It worked quite nicely on the DVD player, except that I couldn't pause it. Brightness was a minor problem, a bit too bright in the beginning, then suddenly becoming a bit too dark -- I think whoever dubbed it tweaked the controls mid-show. There were also a few instantaneous MPEG artifacts. Windows Media Player played it nicely (though I wish I could have expanded it to full screen). Starting up Xine to play it on the Linux box locked the system up tighter than a James Brown rhythm section with tetanus. Had it been on a network, I probably could have telnetted in from another system and killed the process, but that wasn't available this time. All told, I'm pleased. I just FTPed some software to burn VCDs on Windows systems, and my brother has an encoder and a fast machine with lotsa disk space, so I think I may beg his indulgence and cooperation in transferring some of my VHS tapes of my theatre performances to VCD. - -- | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Jun 2002 22:44:24 -0700 From: "Marta Grabien" Subject: Re: b/emmy lobbying > > I will be very interested to know if the VCD works. > > It worked quite nicely on the DVD player, except that I couldn't pause Great info. I have forwarded it to my geeky son. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V4 #86 ****************************
