And I can imagine Spike wanting Buffy to train him, instead of Giles being his trainer. (Which would be an interesting twist on the slayer-watcher relationship, especially since Buffy has never been exactly willing to be a proper slayer.) Neither. Remember, Sayjahn, the demon with bad skin, was a time traveler and said he went back in time and wrote that. The prophecy was supposed to be about Angel killing Sayjahn. So is Sayhahn Conner, later in life? Sayjan (I concede that I have no clue how to spell that :) saw the prophecy and decided to go back in time to change the prophecy so it wouldn't come true. He literally rewrote the book to avoid his fate. We'll see if it worked... I really have to watch these things, instead of taping. In my search for a tape or tonight I oun the Angel where the baby is taken away, Buffy and a West Wing, all previously unwatched. If I sit bolt upright, perhaps I won't pass out. (sigh) Hockey is still on? I thought the Sharks ended the season. Which is why Sawjohn was so eager to get Connor out of there. And by erasing this prophecy and substituting one that said Angel would kill Connor, he gave Wesley his excuse to extract Connor without Sawjohn having to do anything else. Angel, Connor, and Sawjohn are all different people. (So far as we know.) All that was moved around were the names in the prophecy. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 2002 23:07:27 -0700 From: "David S. Bratman" Subject: b/prescient lines Oh, there are plenty of them. It's just that I just ran across this one: "Spike, my boy, you really don't get it, do you? You tried to kill her, but you couldn't. Look at you, you're a wreck. She's stronger than any Slayer you've ever faced. Force won't get it done. You gotta work from the inside. To kill this girl -- you have to love her." - - Angel, "Innocence" (the first "Angel goes bad" episode, season 2) Not exactly a Prophecy Boy, since the eventual circumstances are quite different, but it has interesting ... resonances. Y'know, despite my strictures on "Becoming" some time back, I'm finding that watching (or, in some cases, rewatching) some of these season 1 and 2 episodes reminds me of just how good this show can be when it's on target. Maybe I should stop. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V4 #74 ****************************
