I don't think WB would have ever showed Warren getting skinned. I'm still thinking about this one. The final line of the preview for "Two to Go", where Buffy tells Willow she'll show her "what a Slayer really is" is downright chilling. My favorite part was when Willow repeated the "bored now" line that evil vampire Willow used to use. LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! I guess everybody's either off on the other boards or is still too stunned. SPOILER SPACE OK. Thoughts: 1. Interesting combination of hyper-realistic (and very thoughtful) discussion of justice and vengeance with two amazingly tacky god/demon/whatzits that remind me of _Angel_'s use of Powers That Be and similar creatures. Observe, by the way, that naturalistic medicine works on Buffy while big magic doesn't work on Tara. True, the deck is loaded: Tara is already dead, Buffy isn't; Slayer healing power; Willow in the hospital thinks she's the one saving Buffy's life. Despite that, I think a point is being made here. 2. The realistic side of the _action_ was an interesting combination of the traditions of "The Body" and of "Bad Girls," the former being very high-quality and the latter being where Buffy got in trouble with the cops but it was just dropped. In this case, two people having been shot, Xander would have been interviewed and the cops would be looking for Warren too. What happens when they don't find him? Probably nothing. 3. In the at-home scenes, Buffy now begins to look, and not just talk and act, like Joyce. Kudos for having had an actress who really looked as if she could have been SMG's mother. Care like this resonates. 4. Speaking of resonance, what does the torture scene at the end remind you of? Not much of Spike and Dru torturing Giles, but I did note the echo of VW's conversational style, as Todd mentions. And Willow's shrugging off the axe reminded me of Glory similarly shrugging off Willow's knives. I think this is supposed to show us how much more powerful Willow is now, especially when not fighting gods. Berni suggests Willow disappears at the end to recharge. I think she's rather beyond needing to do that now, or she wouldn't disappear the way she did. And last, of course, although the circumstances are entirely different, one is reminded of the encounter of Faith and Alan. Which leads us to ... 5. What next? Willow's last words are "One down." Presumably she is not discussing football. So who else is she after? Jonathan and Andrew? Fish in a barrel, though I suppose Willow might think they're equally at fault. Will Andrew, learning of the death of _his_ love, find a way to fight back? Possible untied end: did Warren get anything from the witch-parlor guy that we didn't see him use? Any sort of device or spell that might trip up later? Somehow, it seems from the preview, Willow will come in conflict with Buffy. Probably simply due to Willow's taking the law a bit much into her own hands. I suppose she is the season's Big Bad after all, in a sense; though we still have Spike to worry about. (I see I guessed right about what he's after.) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 01:48:58 EDT From: GHighPine@aol.com Subject: Re: b/villains This was pretty grim, but it didn't have much in the way of plot surprises. (In fact, for BUFFY, a surprising lack of surprises.) It pretty much went straight and twistless along the plot route that was set up last week.
