From scifiwire.com: Buffy Toon Stalled? Buffy the Vampire Slayer executive producer Marti Noxon told SCI FI Wire that the proposed animated version of the popular UPN series may be stalled. "The animated series is still in the works," Noxon said in an interview at UPN's winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif. "I think that ... there's been some problems with Fox Family TV. So I'm not sure it's going to go on, ... not because of anything having to do with the show, but because I think Fox is not sure that they want to do more family programming like that. ... It's not going away, because scripts are written and stuff has already been done. But right now, the question is where it's going to end up airing." Noxon, who is co-running the original Buffy with creator Joss Whedon, said that Whedon and other Buffy writers have already written a half-dozen scripts for the animated series. "Almost everybody except me," she said with a laugh. The animated show is "really funny. It's really charming. It's got to get on the air. It's definitely one of those animated shows that skews both for adults and kids. It's going to kick Spongebob's ass! Just kidding." David Boreanaz, who stars in the Buffy spinoff series Angel on the rival WB network, told SCI FI Wire that he won't be voicing the vampire character in the animated show, which is supposed to be set back at Sunnydale High School. "Joss came to me, and he said, 'We're doing the Buffy animated thing, and you're more than welcome to come down.' And I've just been so tied up now with work that it just hasn't happened. So I don't think it's going to happen." 2.) There is no word yet as to whether ANGEL will be renewed for next season. But it's still early in the renewal game, so no news is not necessarily bad news at this point. Speaking of ANGEL... 3.) From aintitcoolnews.com: ANGEL: In case you hadn't heard ... Joss Whedon, who co-wrote and directed the vampire detective's pilot way back in '99, has just completed his second "Angel" as writer-hyphen-director. It airs Feb. 4. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 17:44:37 -0700 From: Kathleen Dalton-Woodbury Subject: Re: b/ & a/ Have I missed all the commentary? Cordy may have made the wrong decision at first, but she didn't miss a step in fixing it. Buffy, on the other hand, was using invisibility as an excuse to behave irresponsibly, as if she couldn't be held accountable for her actions if she couldn't be seen. > Anyone else think it was interesting that we could see Cordy, but we > couldn't see Buffy? (Did Sarah Michelle Gellar not want to appear on > screen or what?) I think it was just the nature of the respective episodes. We were seeing Cordy on the astral plane or something. So has anyone gotten the season one dvds yet? I got an email from BN.com that they were on their way, but haven't received them yet. This is interesting. I'd better put in some spoiler space in case someone hasn't had a chance to watch their tape. S P O I L E R As a Christian, I was a little shocked that Cordy was so ready to be "demonized." They've established now that not all demons are evil (in the Buffyverse), but I would still want to know how such a decision would affect my soul. If becoming part demon meant being shut out of heaven, I would have opted to remain fully human and also have the visions and just make sure all my affairs were in order, knowing I could die at any time. Martyrdom is a fine Catholic tradition. The resolution I had expected was for the host to get the vision power. This was a twist I wasn't expecting, and I hope it wasn't just to give them a chance to play with stuff like the effects of red kryptonite on Superman in the Superman comics of the '60s. (What's Cordy's quirky effect today? Stay tuned and see if we have a plot or just a plot device!) > So has anyone gotten the season one dvds yet? No. I keep meaning to post something but utter laziness kicks in. :) >Was there a new ANGEL episode on Jan 7th (I hope not)? No, there wasn't. >Anyone else think it was interesting that both Buffy and Cordy were >invisible (each in her own way) in the last new BUFFY episode and the last >new ANGEL episode? I was thinking more of the parallels between this week's ANGEL and "The Wish", but that is kinda interesting. >Anyone else think it was interesting that we could see Cordy, but we >couldn't see Buffy? (Did Sarah Michelle Gellar not want to appear on >screen or what?) Well, Buffy was invisible when the others were supposed to be able to see her, so it makes sense that the audience couldn't see her either. The comedy came from we in the audience having the same point of view as those who were in the room with her. Cordy, on the other hand, was on another plane of existence. Since we in the audience were able to see her when nobody else could, we got a better perspective on what she was going through, being there and not there at the same time. Hilary inquired: >So has anyone gotten the season one dvds yet? I got an email from BN.com >that they were on their way, but haven't received them yet. Yep, my amazon.com pre-order arrived right on time on Tuesday. I've been suffering from excessive lameness so I haven't put any of them into the player yet, but I really like the packaging. :) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 20:44:56 -0500 From: "Micole Iris Sudberg" Subject: RE: b/ & a/ > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-stillpt@smoe.org > [mailto:owner-stillpt@smoe.org]On Behalf Of > Kathleen Dalton-Woodbury > Sent: Thursday, January 17, 2002 7:45 PM > To: stillpt@smoe.org > Subject: Re: b/ & a/ > > > Have I missed all the commentary? > > Was there a new ANGEL episode on Jan 7th (I hope not)? I believe they tried to arrange for an SMG-light episode so she could have some time off after her father's death. - --m. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 18:20:06 -0800 (PST) From: Todd Huff Subject: Re: b/ & a/ > So has anyone gotten the season one dvds yet? BTW, the plastic wrapping had a sticker on it saying that it had 24 complete episodes on it. Thought about complaining, but it's not like the local manager had anything to do with it. Cordy's surely going to learn that she should've listened to Skip (Skip! I was *so* glad to see him back!!) and not made the decision so lightly.
