We've been assuming that it was related to her inability to feel, but what if the two things are unrelated. Buffy didn't seem depressed as Joan in Tabula Rasa and she was clearly happy to discover Dawn was her sister, and relishing her role as superhero. If, as was implied, that spell brought everyone down to a baseline persona, perhaps her depression is due to what she's been through, and the "wrongness" relates to something else entirely (such as the implications that the slayer "force" is not human). And to expand on this, for a moment with her memory gone, she had the feeling back and then she lost it again...she was on unsteady ground to begin with and this made her lose her balance completely...led to her behavior in Smashed.
