So, she's been grabbing Willow's stuff more than anything else? Makes me wonder if that isn't what will trigger the Big Bad: Willow uses magic to find out where her disappearing stuff is going and when it shows her that Dawn is the culprit, Willow decides to show everyone that she is not someone to be messed with.... Actually, reading a review of last night's episode elsewhere reminded me that the earrings were actually Anya's ... but I'm sure she nicked something of Willow's last season too, when she was staying in her and Tara's room following Joyce's funeral. I just can't remember what it was. (Don? :) Incidentally, the reviewer also thought the thing she pocketed in the Magic Box was the medallion Willow got from Anya's former boss. >Makes me wonder if that isn't what will trigger the Big Bad: > >Willow uses magic to find out where her disappearing stuff >is going and when it shows her that Dawn is the culprit, >Willow decides to show everyone that she is not someone to >be messed with.... That's one possibility I suppose, though I get the feeling it won't be any one thing that pushes Willow over the edge. Since they seem to be paralleling the addict's downward spiral, I think it'll be a cumulative series of events which gradually push her farther and farther away from the group, until finally she does something which she thinks is completely harmless but ends up having disastrous consequences. (I've heard rumblings of a regular cast member leaving before season's end who isn't Tony Head ... combine this with where Willow appears to be headed and I fear there are going to be some very difficult episodes coming up down the line.) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2001 18:53:53 -0500 From: Hilary Hertzoff Subject: Re: VCR Alert - Buffy to run long on 11/6 (fwd) On Tue, 30 Oct 2001, you wrote: > [From another list I'm on--dgk] > > Public Service Announcement: > > It is being reported that the All Singing All Dancing Buffy musical > episode that is scheduled for November 6th will run 8 minutes longer > than usual. And why have > none of her victims in the gang noticed? I'm trying to recall what Dawn's other thefts have been. The only one that comes to mind is Anya's (or were they Tara's?) earrings. I don't know about you, but I have lost enough earrings in my lifetime, even from within my bedroom, to not think anyone stole them. (Of course, having cats helps that.) Also, the Scoobies are in so many fights where clothes and property get trashed, that they might be less likely to notice small items missing. If they did suspect someone of stealing, I'm sure Spike, not Dawn, would be top of the list. I'm hoping they address why Dawn takes these things. My first thought was that she was taking momentos of the gang as a sort of talisman for when she's not with them. I wonder if these make her feel "real" -- she's most likely still traumatized from learning she was the key and hadn't been born Buffy's sister as a baby. I'll be disappointed if it's just mundane teenage rebellion, acting-out. > My only complaint about the Willow/Tara relationship has been that there > really isn't enough chemistry between Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson to > make the relationship believable. Both Willow and Tara are more low-key and mellow than Buffy. I wouldn't expect to see the obvious passion that Buffy and Faith (and Xena and Gabrielle) possess. They're more intellectual and cuddle-oriented, which I think is sweet. Not all couples crackle with sexual energy. > I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if _Xena_ can make not one, but > *two* musicals work, then we have absolutely nothing to worry about. :) I thought "The Bitter Suite" worked very well and the other one ("War"? it had that song in it) didn't. Marty conjectured: >I think the actress who plays Tara has lots of other projects. Bet she >leaves. While I would agree that this would make sense, based on the fact that Amber Benson *still* isn't a regular cast member, even after all this time (which just fries me), I really, really hope it doesn't happen. Joss has long maintained that he wants Willow and Tara's relationship to be a good one, because he doesn't want anyone to think he has any sort of a negative statement to make about same-sex relationships. If Tara were to go away (and particularly if Willow were to be the reason), that would fly in the face of that for sure. Of course, taking Tara out of the equation, the only other possibility I could see would be Anya. Giles is already essentially gone, and the fan revolt would be way too noisy if Spike or Xander were to bite it. And Joss clearly sees too many possibilities for Dawn to let her go so quickly. If Willow were to be responsible for something permanent happening to Anya, Xander would never be able to forgive her. And oh, what Joss could do with a situation like *that*. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 20:45:26 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: comments10/31 Hi, Berni responded: >I find it believable. That's true, but I don't see enough chemistry between them to even make the cuddling part believable. But that could just be my personal problem. :) >I thought "The Bitter Suite" worked very well and the other one ("War"? it >had that song in it) didn't. Or was there one before "The Bitter Suite" >that I missed? No, "The Bitter Suite" was the first one, and "Lyre, Lyre, Hearts On Fire" was the second. The first one was by far better than the second, but it still worked, for what it was. "The Bitter Suite" was one of the best-realized episodes of _Xena_ ever. The way they wove the Tarot symbolism into everything was stunning, and I actually pull out the soundtrack every once in a while and listen to it. It's got just the right amount of faux-Disney mixed with Lloyd-Webber pastiche, and man, can Lucy Lawless sing. (The "Lyre, Lyre" soundtrack is worth picking up too, if nothing else because there is a great version of "We Can Work It Out" that Xena and Gabrielle were supposed to sing to one another in a scene that got cut for time. See the above comment re Lucy Lawless and singing -- it's really good.) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V3 #169 *****************************
