I haven't rewatched the episode yet, but will note both moments carefully when I do. However, I would hate to think Giles was meant to be seen as so immature, however depression prone, that he would be sent over the edge by a =robot's= questioning his presence! And he's surely used to Spike's defensive sarcasm by now? But I guess a big part of what bothers me is the fact that all last season, Giles seemed more a pathetically adolescent source of comic relief, than the more mature individual with a role to play that we saw in previous seasons.
