Fox 5 in NYC is, as I expected, running episodes at 6 p.m. on Saturdays starting with 1st season: "Welcome to the Hellmouth" ran yesterday. And UPN 9 is running episodes at 8 p.m. on Sundays; but they're starting with the =3rd= season, who knows why (took me a whole 45 seconds to figure out the episode tonight was "Anne," not "Welcome to the Hellmouth" again). Furthermore, on both networks, the episodes are trimmed. Not by much; nothing substantial is missing: maybe a couple minutes at most. (Just enough to put in what seemed to be one extra commercial break.) I wouldn't have noticed myself if I didn't know the episodes so #@$#ing well that I was anticipating dialogue. Two quick examples. In "Welcome to the Hellmouth," when Willow introduces Xander to Buffy, they've already met, and Xander does a little routine about them going "way back," after which his buddy Jesse asks him if he's become a blithering idiot; Jesse's remark and Xander's reply got cut. In "Anne," when Lily and Ricky show Buffy their tatoos, she says they're "nice--and permanent," the phrase after the dash is trimmed. So it's not much; just tightening up the dialogue a little bit here and there. But it's annoying, and a bit surreal when dialogue you remember isn't there. Well, the DVDs will be out in due time. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V3 #148 *****************************
