As anime the movie is an abject failure (it's obvious that no one at the Mouse has ever seen any anime, though maybe they've read some articles about it), and the animation is cheezy, especially for Disney, from whom I've come to expect much more in that department. But it was an enjoyable way to kill a couple hours, and Claudia Christian is in it! (Even if she did get stuck playing the second-in-command again, sigh.) Interestingly, the story ended up being more an adaptation of _Journey To The Center Of The Earth_ than anything else. It worked surprisingly well. The reason I'm bothering to post this is because one of the story credits made me jump: Joss Whedon!! I guess that means he got to do one of the rewrites. Looking back I can think of a few lines that sounded very Joss. But really, when did the man have the *time*?!? In other movie-related news, Eliza Dushku has not one, but two movies set for release on August 24: the eagerly-awaited (at least by me :) _Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back_, in which she plays the leader of a band of jewel thieves (a role written specifically for her), and the perpetually-delayed _Soul Survivors_, with Wes Bentley from _American Beauty_, among others. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jul 2001 18:03:55 -0400 From: meredith Subject: b/THE WATCHER a go? Foreshadowing for season's end, perhaps? - -- When silly-Xander goes to Willow's to convince her that he's the real Xander, he wonders, "It's a robot! An evil robot constructed from evil parts that look like me and are designed to do evil!" - -- Later, in the Magic Box, when Giles figures out what's going on he explains what the Toth-demon was trying to do: GILES But the two halves can't exist without the other. Kill the weaker Buffy half and the Slayer half dies. BUFFY So, same thing for the Xanders, right? Both of them need to stay alive or they both die. ... and the same goes for Glory and Ben. Anyhoo, I thought it was interesting. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V3 #116 *****************************
