Keller" Subject: b/gift/tvguide Here's what =TV Guide='s Matt Roush, big =Buffy= fan, has to say about "The Gift" at the close of his column called "End Games," about season finales: "...=Buffy the Vampire Slayer=, in its final original WB broadcast before moving to UPN, triumphantly pulled off a stunning emotional climax, as Buffy sacrificed herself to save her little sister--and, by the way, the world. With romance, action, humor and palpable grief, this series upstaged all of its peers with a display of creative bravado. "Long live =Buffy=. How long until fall arrives?" (October 9th, right, Meredith?) Well, that's the way "The Gift" was =supposed= to work. But I remain steadfast in my conviction that it didn't work, for me anyway. Roush did not include =Dark Angel= in his survey of season finales; I'm kind of getting the impression that, once the preseason blitz of publicity settled down, =Dark Angel= dipped beneath the radar of most TV commentators. The current bee in my bonnet (always has to be one, right?) is that the success of the =Dark Angel= finale may go a long way toward explaining the failure of the =Buffy= finale. The problem is that I gather there aren't that many =Dark Angel= viewers on this list, which would necessitate, should I decide to explicate the comparison, a brief exposition of the necessary elements in the whole =Dark Angel= season as well as a synopsis of the finale. So I hereby solicit the assembled multitude for a show of interest before I unilaterally launch into such an endeavor. If anybody thinks it would be 1) boring 2) too much of a spoiler for those who might want to try and catch up on the reruns (should I wait until the fall, then?), please speak up. Also if you find the idea of particular interest. Meanwhile, I'll go back and look at what I was working on before to see if I can rev it up and finish it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 12:37:28 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: b/gift/tvguide Hi, Don set forth: >If anybody thinks it would be 1) boring 2) too much of a spoiler for those >who might want to try and catch up on the reruns (should I wait until the >fall, then?), please speak up. If nothing else we can precede our _Dark Angel_ posts with a "da/" so those who don't care can easily slip past them... ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2001 12:02:43 -0700 From: "Susan Kroupa" Subject: Re: b/gift/tvguide Expound away. Speak your mind, Don, and spoilers be damned. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V3 #102 *****************************
