I haven't seen a single posting about last night's Buffy/Angel episodes. First a little spoiler space... ... My biggest question is what did Willow give up to gain that much power so quickly? She physically broke open a book titled "Darkest Magic" (rather a lame title, I must say) and then we see her as Dark Willow, floating/flying with Lyta-from-B5 eyes and a bunch of new whammies. You know she didn't get that with a quick chant and a few herbs. She must have conjured some demon/power and promised it some part of herself. I expect to find out what the price was in upcoming episodes (or I'll be very disappointed in Joss). I also like how this was foreshadowed in the argument between Willow and Tara when Tara says that Willow's growth in magic is frightening. Willow-with-Tara is less responsible than old Willow, I think. Or maybe it's Willow-with-Dawn. A couple of weeks ago, Willow seemed willing to help Dawn find a way to resurrect her mother. (Or, more likely, was unwilling to say no.) Now Willow allows Dawn to be distracted from her homework with the human triangle. Is Willow regressing in maturity (after all, she's the one living in a dorm with no major cares) or is it that everyone around her is gaining maturity and making her look immature by comparison? Touching scene in the counselor's office with Buffy and Dawn. The actress playing the counselor looked to me like too many teachers/school administrators I've seen! Good casting. Actually, the "touching" part was delayed until much later when Buffy reveals that if Dawn doesn't straighten up at school, Buffy won't be deemed a suitable guardian. Where were they when Glory burst in on them at the end? I thought they were in those caves where we saw Spike and Dawn earlier in the episode. When Glory came in, it was clear they were in some sort of building. Was that part of the high school? And I haven't watched _Angel_ yet. I had a meeting that ran late, so I only had time to watch _Buffy_ on that tape before bedtime. >First a little >spoiler space... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >... I expect to >find out what the price was in upcoming episodes (or I'll be very >disappointed in Joss). I agree 100%. Though I wouldn't be surprised to find that she had indeed gotten it with chants and herbs ... Tara had said in last week's episode, as well as this one that Willow has become very powerful in a very short period of time (which was news to me, since none of that has been onscreen). I'm glad someone else thought those were Lyta eyes! :) And to make the book's title even lamer, it was _Darkest Magick_. Gotta have that "k" in there, you know (why wasn't it in Latin or something?!). >I also like how this was foreshadowed in the argument between Willow and >Tara when Tara says that Willow's growth in magic is frightening. Ah yes, the argument. Did I miss something, or did that whole quarrel come straight out of left field? The entire fight seemed like a series of non-sequiturs strung together. Though I guess 'first fights' can be irrational sometimes ... but that just seemed like a Dadaist scene put together for the sole purpose of furthering the plot. Which it did, though, and to devastating effect. What happened after that was truly heartbreaking. The whole final scene (before Glory showed up), with Willow feeding Tara and saying to her, "that's my girl" is going to stay with me for a long time. Amber Benson did a really good job throughout the episode, I thought. Why oh why isn't she a regular?! >Willow-with-Tara is less responsible than old Willow, I think. Or maybe >it's Willow-with-Dawn. A couple of weeks ago, Willow seemed willing to help >Dawn find a way to resurrect her mother. (Or, more likely, was unwilling to >say no.) Is Willow regressing in maturity (after all, she's the one >living in a dorm with no major cares) or is it that everyone around her is >gaining maturity and making her look immature by comparison? I don't see this as a maturity issue ... I see it as her way of coping with the helplessness of the situation. As she said to Tara, she has no way of understanding what Dawn is going through, but she desperately wants to help anyway. So she points Dawn toward the book, and comes up with the body triangle idea (though I think Buffy was being *way* too hardass on her for that one -- I believed her when she said it was just a geometry demonstration). Speaking of Buffy the Hardass, did she leave her brain at the cemetery or something? Why on earth didn't she just come out and explain to Dawn what might happen if she doesn't get her act together at school, as soon as she had the conversation with the principal about it? And why, oh WHY did she think that Willow would listen to her when she told her not to go after Glory? Under normal circumstances, it wouldn't have taken Spike to remind her of what she would have done in the same situation. Buffy can't be that blind -- she's got to know how much Willow loves Tara. >Where were they when Glory burst in on them at the end? I thought they were >in those caves where we saw Spike and Dawn earlier in the episode. When >Glory came in, it was clear they were in some sort of building. Was that >part of the high school? I was wondering that myself. It looked like they were in the attic of a house, but I couldn't figure out which one. Why were they there, anyway -- Glory has gotten what she wants from Tara, so why the need to hide her in the attic? Did Willow not want the brain-drained Tara in the dorm? Some other tidbits: - -- Nice haircut, Xander. - -- Just when I thought she couldn't get any more hilarious, along comes Anya the Raging Patriotic Capitalist. - -- Interesting that Buffy left Dawn with Spike for safekeeping. I guess she really does trust him. - -- Did Spike really call Dawn "platelet"?! :> Only three episodes left ... I have no idea how they're going to manage to wrap all this up in that time. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 May 2001 22:32:49 -0400 From: meredith Subject: b/amber benson interview Hi, There is a great interview with Amber Benson at: http://scifi.ign.com/tv/6660.html She talks about the movie she's making, among other things. (No spoilers.) Also, Don told me he saw somewhere that she's written a Tara & Willow one-off _Buffy_ Comic that Dark Horse will be putting out in the near future. She's obviously a very talented individual. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 21:06:53 -0500 (CDT) From: allenw Subject: Re: b/amber benson interview On Wed, 2 May 2001, meredith wrote: > Hi, > > There is a great interview with Amber Benson at: > > http://scifi.ign.com/tv/6660.html > > She talks about the movie she's making, among other things. The comic came out two weeks ago, actually... and I didn't get a copy. :( ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 May 2001 23:09:08 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: b/amber benson interview Hi, Allen reported: > The comic came out two weeks ago, actually... and I didn't get a >copy. :( Argh!!! I'll check at my local comics shop anyway -- the media comics tend not to sell from there for some reason. If they have two I'll pick one up for you. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 May 2001 20:34:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Todd Huff Subject: Re: B/ Tough Love > Where were they when Glory burst in on them at the > end? Only way I see out of the current predicament is for an unexpected Ben/Glory switch. Looks like the Legion of Byzantium is returning next week as well. Things are definitely building to a head. I also thought the Willow-as-avenging-witch bit seemed a little cheesy, although I liked the "Bag of knives" line. Yahoo!
