I was home sick today so I rewatched the episode. I wanted to catch what the Buffybot's screen said about Xander. (It said "friend/carpenter/dates Anya" or something like that. More amusing, there were file folders on her desktop with labels like "slaying," "stuff Spike likes," and "stuff Spike doesn't like.") Watching the scene with the first Slayer again, I had a thought. Someone brought up earlier that perhaps the gift of death which Buffy gives out of love is to Dawn. That may be so, but I'd hate for that to happen. Another possibility is that Buffy must give death to defeat Glory. Glory is not a happy camper. She wants her key, and she hates body sharing with Cute Intern Ben (tm). Ben is decent and lovable. Perhaps the key to defeating Glory is to remove the joint body. Ben may beg Buffy to kill him as the only way to stop Glory. If he is injured in some way, this would be even more likely. Buffy doesn't kill wantonly, but if she sees this as the only way to defeat Glory and save Dawn, her love for Dawn (not to mention the world) may allow her to kill Ben/Glory. How else can you kill a god (if you're not Xena) if not with his own compliance? While in a human avatar, she may very well be vulnerable. Then again, it may be that she's somehow vulnerable to the key in the same way Balder was to mistletoe or Namuci to sea foam (hi Don!).
