Keller" Subject: b/titles Lots of interesting discussion I haven't had a chance to join in on (and won't today--I'm going to work in a little bit). I'm relieved that =Buffy='s fate is now determined, and that we'll get two more years at least. And also that =Angel= won't be sacrificed in its place. This note is mostly to mention that I went to the website of David Lavery (co-editor of the book of essays I'm in) where he maintains a =Buffy= episode guide, and found there the titles of the rest of the season's episodes: 4/24 "Intervention" 5/01 "Tough Love" 5/08 "Spiral" 5/15 "The Weight of the World" 5/22 "Centennial" Food for thought. I'm picking up a =NYTimes= on my way to work. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 11:32:56 -0700 From: "David S. I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it rather ... well, idiotic. I was sure I was reading it wrong, but after three times I'm pretty sure she really is saying that Tolkien for all intents and purposes destroyed 20th century literature. (Since that's not what the essay purports to be about if you just read the first two paragraphs, I can think of several English teachers from my past who would have fits about the essay in general.) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 21:31:20 -0400 From: Micole Sudberg Subject: Re: b/titles At 08:38 PM 4/22/01 -0400, meredith wrote: >Hi, > >David urged: > >>Be sure to read the outstandingly idiotic article on Tolkien in the Book >>Review section. > >I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it rather ... well, idiotic. I think by "death to literature" she just means that death to Tolkien's own literary intentions. Which is *slightly* less idiotic than accusing him of destroying literature in general. - --m. - -- "Socks are a fact." -- A. S.
