Because expecting a desperate, reckless 14-year-old to learn caution from a textbook wasn't the brightest thing Willow's ever done, and on second thought, she knew it? As for Spike -- given his first reaction to Dawn's plan, I assumed he would have preferred to dissuade her, but knew she'd make some attempt no matter what he said, and wanted to make sure she didn't get herself killed making the arrangements. In fact, I wondered whether he'd had a little chat with that so-helpful demon beforehand, to make sure the right points got mentioned. I thought it was a pity that no one was likely to appreciate Spike's version of good parenting. You can't stop a Summers woman from doing what she's determined to do. If you want to protect her, you have to keep up with her. And Dawn is enough of a little Buffy that I don't think Spike needs ulterior motives for wanting to protect her. I'm not a Good!Spike believer in general, but in this case, I take him at face value. Dawn ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V3 #67 ****************************
