Keller" Subject: true lies I was sure I would never be interested in seeing =True Lies=. Then I found out Eliza Dushku was in it. So one bored afternoon a few months ago I rented it. You know, it's pretty entertaining. Ridiculously violent, but the film is aware of this: it's clearly playing the violence (and other over-the-top action) for laughs, and I was able to get into its spirit. Eliza Dushku does a good job of playing Arnold Schwarzeneggar's and Jamie Lee Curtis' teenage daughter; she's sullen and only a bit rebellious, like Faith might have been if she'd had a better home life (kind of an earlier version of her character in =Bring It On=). When I noticed the film was on TV this week (I watched a little of it), I was suddenly struck by a realization. Meredith and I have been talking all season about how Jessica Alba has been very good as the lead character Max (a genetically souped-up warrior, i.e. the science fiction version of a Slayer) in James Cameron's TV series =Dark Angel=, but that if =we= were casting it Eliza Dushku would have been the obvious first choice; but since one article on the show noted that Cameron had never seen =Buffy=, maybe he didn't know about Eliza Dushku... ...but now I realize that Cameron directed =True Lies=, so he =must= know about her. So what's the dealio? (Sorry, =Dark Angel=-speak.) Did he never consider her for the role? Did he offer it to her and she was too busy? (She =has= been really busy, viz. her absence on =Buffy= and =Angel=, except for that one scene.) Did he offer it to her and she said, "Naah, it's too much like Faith, I wanna do something different"? Enquiring minds now want to know. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V3 #54 ****************************
