I just picked myself up off the floor. Holy sh*t!!!!! I guess my wish was granted ... they're definitely cranking it up now!!! I missed the middle where the Council was interviewing the gang - gotta go back and check that out on tape once _Dark Angel_ is finished taping. I have a feeling it was amusing, though. Favorite bits: - -- Spike and Joyce settling down to watch "Passions". - -- "I love what you've neglected to do with the place." - -- And, of course, the entire final scene. I was applauding right along with the gang. You go, Buffy!!! (But who the hell are these Mystic Knights of Byzantium, or whatever those were?!) Keller" Subject: b/checkpoint I =guess= that's the title... I really shouldn't give in to the urge to predict. At least I was half-right. Which I'll explain... After a little... more.... SPOILER!! SPACE!!!! Dawn =is= getting fed up, and figuring on figuring it out herself. Rather a good episode, I thought. Excellent closing monolog for SMG. Thoughtful of the writers to provide it. Several people have said to me that they think Clare Kramer, who plays Glory, is not a good actor. I'm not so sure. I think the character is being played deliberately broadly, and mostly for laughs. (Xena fans: isn't she a bit like Aphrodite?) Anyway, I think she worked better in this episode; this is the first time she showed a little menace. (As Adam proved, just being able to beat Buffy hand-to-hand is not menacing.) (I originally wrote "actress" up there, and changed it to "actor." Which reminds me to note that Quentin Travers called Glory a "god," not a "goddess." Interesting.) Continued good use of Spike. (Wonderful bit with the Watcher who wrote her thesis on him.) Anya very funny as usual, especially her "cover alias" and "Willow's a demon?" Glory using the word proved once again that this show has made very sure that I will never in my life be able to hear the word "minion" without laughing. Wild guess: Ben is Glory's rebellious son. (How =did= Glory find Buffy, anyway? Looked her up in the phone book, maybe; we know she has one.) As for =Angel=, not to break my arm patting myself on the back, I figured out very early on that that was Anne (aka Lily, aka Chanterelle; and by the way, she and Angel met, but neither seemed to remember that. Cf. "Lie to Me" 2nd season). Nice to see that after Demon Ken bit it she took up his work for real. Glad to see she survived and flourished. A nice bit to bring her back. Is that all I have to say for the moment? Probably. We'll have two weeks to pore over it, in any case. (Damn them.) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 21:50:44 -0800 From: "Susan Kroupa" Subject: Re: b/checkpoint I agree. Great episode. This is the type show I remember and love! I think Glory is a much more interesting villian than Adam. And I loved Anya's efforts to convince the council she is human. She's great. >Anyway, I think she worked better in this >episode; this is the first time she showed a little menace. (As Adam >proved, just being able to beat Buffy hand-to-hand is not menacing.) Good point. She was actually scary in this one. Buffy knows she's got her number, so the living room scene had that much more power. Good to see that she couldn't tell Dawn was the key just by looking at her, though. That's clearly what Buffy was worried about when Dawn came into the room. >(I originally wrote "actress" up there, and changed it to "actor." Which >reminds me to note that Quentin Travers called Glory a "god," not a >"goddess." Interesting.) Anyone want to wager which one? Rob is putting money on Tiamat. I'm not so sure. >Anya very funny as usual, especially her "cover alias" and "Willow's a >demon?" Her interview with the Council guy was good, too.
