Keller" Subject: b/nattering Now that we've had a summer vacation... I figured it was time to post something again when I woke up this morning from a =Buffy= dream. (Oddly, I don't have too many of them--maybe two or three the whole time the show has been on.) Something about--this is going to sound really strange--Buffy waking up in a nun's habit in a small cell, and me-the-viewer saying in startlement, "Omighod!! How did she get back =there=??" which kicked me out of the dream and awake. (The understanding being that she had spent some time getting =away= from the cell--the rest of the dream I've forgotten, but there was something about driving eight hours to West Virginia...) Totally incoherent. The next thing I wanted to say was: Ken, you're such a sourpuss. Yeah, yeah, =Buffy= had a "down" season this past season (kind of like the Yankees are having a "down" season 8 games in front in their division). Sure, Adam was a dull boy, and the Initiative was more dangerous than menacing. But the 4th season was clearly better than the 1st season of =Angel=, a fair but not poor show. The season also featured two of the best episodes ever ("Hush" and "Restless"), and frankly from my purely subjective position "Restless" pretty much saved the season single-handedly. (By the way, "Restless" is being rerun this coming Tuesday, for those who need to know. I might retape it, myself. My copy is less than perfect.) And for that matter, having a couple times re-watched the climactic two-parter just before it, I think it's...pretty good. Solid, in fact. It just falls =well= short of the show's previous showing in such two-parters (and let's remember this was the first time it wasn't written by Joss Whedon). And yes, "Buffy vs. Dracula" is a really wacko idea. But that's what we said about "Doppelgangland," and that turned out quite well. I had seen that SMG soundbite (about her kiss with Selma Blair in =Cruel Intentions=, for those who didn't follow the url) already, because I read the original =Vogue= cover article on the newsstand. An incident in the movie that's gotten way much press. What I actually bought at the newsstand was this year's yearbook from the =Buffy= official magazine (dos a dos--that's "Ace Double Style" for you sf fans--with the =Angel= yearbook). Complete episode guide for all four seasons (plus =Angel= episode guide as well), and some other fun stuff (funny letter from Joss Whedon, sidebars of good quotes for trivia fun, etc.). Also, there's a =Monster Book= out, which I haven't picked up yet (the stuff about Faith in the back is pretty interesting), and =The Watcher's Guide Volume II= is an October book. I haven't been watching =Angel= reruns (why? I have them on tape), so it was during a Met game that I saw a preview for the new =Angel= season...and nearly every clip featured Faith (from the "tetralogy"). I didn't have the sound on for some reason and didn't turn it up in time, so I don't know anything else about it. Anyone else see it? Last thing for today (more later!): the =Buffy= book editors have decided to use my dream-essay for the book. So we're negotiating about rewrites (they want it more academic, with conclusion, and more synopsis of dreams; I =guess= I can do that). Season starts in 11 days... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 18:22:47 -0700 From: "Marta Grabien" Subject: Re: b/nattering > > Season starts in 11 days... > > I am having it taped for me. But I _cared_ about that arc, while I didn't about Adam. HUSH was the best single episode. I didn't see all of "Restless" so I'm glad to know it's going to be rerun.
