Robert commented: >(As an aside, >anyone else get a delicious chill up their back when the female vocal on >the music soundtrack swelled up immediately after that line, while Giles >and Spike playfully swung?) I was getting chills thanks to the soundtrack for the entire episode. It's the first episode of _Buffy_ that I can think of where I was aware of the score, and I would nominate the score for "Restless" as Best Of The Series so far. It perfectly evoked and enhanced the mood of the dreams, and the vocal parts were gorgeous in and of themselves. While I'm here, I just have to note the _Xena_ comparisons I noted on first viewing. I know they mean absolutely nothing, but I'm sure Greg will get a kick out of them, if nothing else. :) As a fan of both shows, these things can't help but jump out at me. 1.) Willow writing on Tara's back. Reminiscent of Gabrielle painting the mehndi spell onto Xena's back in "Between The Lines" last year. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find some fan-art juxtaposing the images from both scenes on somebody's site already. 2.) The score again: many elements, particularly the vocal bits were very evocative of Joseph LoDuca's score for the "India arc" last year (of which "Between The Lines" is the penultimate episode). And that's all I'm ever going to say about that. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 20:49:42 -0400 (EDT) From: "Hilary L. The first is a translation of the French dub-over, and the second is a translation of the poem by Sappho (!!!) that Willow was painting on Tara's back. Enjoy. Here's the French Giles : In the house we're all sleeping. Your friends are all there - (I really don't understand this next part ) - the creature can't hurt you. Xander : Go where? What? I don't understand! Giles : Oh come on, now's not the time for one of your stupid games! Anya : Xander. You have come with us now. We're waiting for you! Giles : That's what I was trying to tell him! Xander : Honey. I don't ... I can't hear you! Anya : That's not important. I'll take you. Giles : Let's go. And the poem... Many colored throned immortal Aphrodita, daughter of Zeus, wile-weaver, I beg you with reproaches and harms do not beat down O Lady, my soul. But come here, if ever at another time My voice hearing, from afar You have ear, and your father's home leaving -- golden -- you came. Does anyone know what the > hell was up with the cheese guy? The cheese stands alone > and the slayer doesn't? What? See more below about > speculation Notice that Anya was also in every single dream. Hmmmm.... As for The Cheese Man... Joss said on the posting board: "the cheese man means nothing. He is the only thing in the show that means nothing. I needed something like that, something that couldn't be explained, because dreams alawys have that one element that is just RIDICULOUS. Thus, man of cheese. Plus funny. (to me)" Not that I believe him! That man lies constantly (not that that's a bad thing for him!) > I read somewhere that ASH actually wrote the song that he > sung last night, I must say that they need to come out with > another soundtrack and feature full length versions of all > the song he has sung this season. Chris Beck was on the newsgroup and said that Joss wrote the words and music for that song (I don't think I've ever laughed so hard!). By the way, did anyone notice Chris Beck's cameo? He was the piano player! And here's another comment from Joss on the ice cream truck scene: "The ice cream truck scene: FOR THE RECORD, i had envisioned the scene very differently, the girls all matter-of-fact and parka'd up (honestly.) But I mentioned the dream ep to Amber and her first comment was: "will Aly and I act all slutty in Xander's dream?" and then I spoke to Aly and her first comment was "can Amber and I dress all trampy?" and well, they both seemed so excited... so if it seems like a bit much, just understand I was led from the path of righteousness by my two hottie friends and it's only partially (okay, largely) my fault." And just for fun, here's the french translation from the script: GILES (in English) The others have all gone ahead. Now listen carefully. Your life may depend on what I am about to tell you. You need to get to -- (switch to French ) the house where we're all sleeping. All your friends are there having a wonderful time and getting on with their lives. The creature can't hurt you there. XANDER What? Go Where? I don't understand. GILES (still dubbed in French) Oh for God's sake, this is no time for your idiotic games! Anya rushes to them, worried. And dubbed. ANYA (dubbed in French) Xander! You have to come with us now! Everybody's waiting for you! GILES (still dubbed in French) That's what I've been trying to tell him. XANDER Honey, I don't -- I can't hear you... Anya grabs his arm, starts dragging him. ANYA (dubbed in French) It's not important. I'll take you there. XANDER Well, wait.
