At the >con I saw him at (which was early in second season), someone mentioned >noticing that Giles had a pierced ear, and he said something about it fitting >with Giles' past. I realize that ASH has a pierced ear, and it makes sense that Ripper might have pierced his ear. My complaint is that steady Giles as we've seen him has never sported an earring before. Are they building up to a midlife crisis? And I do wish they'd make some explanation about his financial situation. > I liked his singing in this ep, BTW (a very different vocal style from >Rocky Horror). I thought it was coffeehouse singing, like folkies in the >60s -- not bar singing. Okay, I was unable to come up with the appropriate term. (My first thought was lounge singing, but that definitely has a different connotation.) In my younger days, I used to hear performers sing such songs in bars, not coffee houses, as bars were what we had in the area. I have no objection to ASH/Giles singing: I just think they set him up to look ridiculous again. "No one knows what it's like to be the bad man/ To be the sad man." I forget the title of the song, but that's not what I would imagine Giles to sing. (Although, I must admit that he has been both bad and sad.) > I still think that a major Giles arc has been set up, even if it has not >been played out this season. I hope I'm not wrong, because Giles is my >favorite character after Buffy herself. I agree, both with the idea of an arc being set up and his being a favorite character. I really like the way Giles was in the first 3 seasons and am disappointed with what they've done with him in this season. (Oh, I forgot about ridiculous-Halloween-Giles that we saw this season, too.) I wish he would be treated more respectfully. Since we know he has a great record collection (in "Band Candy" Joyce was playing an album of his by Cream), it's certain that he would be familiar with it. I think it fits in fine with what we know of his past and what he's like now. I don't remember if he did this particular line (I've only watched it once so far), but that song also has the line "my love is vengeance, that's never free". Well, it makes me think, anyhow. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online and get email alerts with Yahoo!
