The Ethros (sp?) demon is so awful that it kills its host (sometimes) and is a mass murderer but then it has a friendly, helpful conversation with Angel at the end? Give me a break. And how could it have a corporeal form when it usually inhabits other bodies? And if Angel could handle the cross with a glove or a rag wrapped around his hand, why didn't he do that in the first place since he's already feeling guilty about Doyle. It's hard to believe he'd let Wesley go it alone when he's consumed with guilt over losing Doyle. The only good thing was that the boy's father didn't turn out to be the villian. And the stuff about Wesley. Sue David S. Remember, Donald, I said I knew other Genie refugees who would be interested in a BUFFY-literate list made up of ex-Genie-ites? Well, welcome to Cleindori! Cleindori, since Donald runs this list and his two big interests are BUFFY and obscure modern classical music, posts are prefaced with b/ for BUFFY-related stuff, m/ for music-related stuff, and os/ for other stuff. This not only allows people who share only one of those interests to delete those they are not interested in (or delay reading the BUFFY posts if necessary), it also takes the place of the prefix that many listservs put in the subject header, to help people keep their mail straight. (This post has a b/ since Cleindori is a BUFFY fan.) Oh, and be careful with the To: header; it is set to default to the individual poster, not to the list. I hit "Reply To All" and manually delete the individual poster's name ... except when I forget and just hit "Reply" and my post goes only to the individual. So, Cleindori, comments on the recent developments? I agree that there's romantic tension between them, but that does not mean that people in that situation automatically fall into bed at the first opportunity. Kudos to the writers for showing restraint. >> I didn't think that they were having sex during that all-nighter, but I did and do think that the writers intended to plant that thought in our head and make us wonder. So they =want= us to think there is something romantic developing. And in BUFFY, one needs to pay attention not only to what actually happens, but to what the writers are trying to get us to think. Sometimes it is misdirection, sometimes it is setup -- but either way, clearly a romance between them is not intended to come as a surprise. So we are being set up for some other kind of surprise. Tara's sabotaging the spell. There seem to be two interpretations: a) she didn't want them doing this specific spell, a demon-exposing spell because for some reason she didn't want demons exposed; or b) she was scared because the spell was stronger than what she felt ready to deal with. I lean toward a)... or else to c) some surprise reason we haven't thought of. Gayle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2000 15:16:41 -0500 (EST) From: "Hilary L. Hertzoff" Subject: b/Willow I was rewatching "Surprise" (having just gotten the new video) and noticed some interesting parallels between that episode and "The I in Team". In both cases the Scooby Gang is having a gathering and Willow is put in the position of having to refuse another invitation from Oz and Tara respectively. With Oz she immediately says it's okay for him to come with, with the assumption that he'd be welcomed by the group; with Tara she insists that it is a private gathering. So the question is: Is she afraid that Tara won't fit in to the Scooby Gang? Is she unsure of her own feelings for Tara? Does she not trust Tara? Does she want to keep Tara for herself since everyone else seems to be finding new "friends" (Olivia, Anya, Riley...)? Hilary Hilary L. Hertzoff Then she was smoked, delicately. Or perhaps it was the director's inspiration. > And =what= is up with Tara sabotaging the spell??? I think she's scared of how real wicca with Willow is. Tara enjoys floating roses and pretty things, but I don't think she wants anything to do with tracking demons. Maybe she's had bad experiences with demons (not to mention the Gentlemen). Maybe she feels too close to them and doesn't want to help destroy them. But I really think she's just scared and this is all just a little much for her. Tara obviously has very low self-esteem. She's always ducking her head and hiding like an abused child. When she and Willow first connected, she thought Willow was more powerful than she. Tara's mother's a witch and Tara's been doing this all her life, presumably. I would think she would be advanced beyond Willow, who's only been at this a few years. > (Why =is= the episode called "Goodby Iowa," anyway? They =aren't= going to > kill of Riley, too, are they??) They might, but I think "Goodbye Iowa" is a reference to Riley's loss of innocence. I suspected the vitamins were enhancing him physically. Evidently Prof. Walsh had a lot more to do with the making of Riley than Riley knew. At this point, he can't trust anything he's ever believed. Didn't it seem like the withdrawal happened much too fast? I thought Riley'd only missed one day, as he'd been out walking all night. You'd think Walsh and the doctors would be smart enough to spread out the dosage so that withdrawal wouldn't be so drastic. What if someone went home to their family for the weekend and forgot to take them? But that's not > how Faith is wired, I should have realized). Oh, what fun. The new TV Guide came. It says that the Mayor left something for Faith to help her fight Buffy. I hope Anya's in next week's episode. I would expect Faith to go after the Scooby Gang, or who's left of that in Sunnydale. Xander would be a natural target, especially as Faith has used him in the past. What a cat fight, Anya vs. Faith! ("Did I mention you can't have Xander?") Yay! That reminds me, I was wondering why, rather than all of them fitting into Xander's cramped basement, they didn't go to Anya's place. She must live somewhere, and she's less known to the Initiative than Xander. It did give rise to a good line, Buffy asking Giles and Anya to stop bickering and "doing scenes from my parents' marriage" or somesuch thing. I don't know if Joss will ever address this loose end, but wouldn't it be funny for Anya to have some hoard of gems she collected over the years while she was a demon? Mooching off of Xander would be so like her. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo!
