There were so many other links in the chain of events leading to her involvement with Xander and her humiliation that she could have chosen, links that would have made much more sense. Keller" Subject: b/comments2/14 Micole: Curiously, you're not going to get an argument from me about "Lie to Me." It's a great episode. One of the key Angel episodes, of course (and his one-on-one scene with Buffy is tremendous)(oh, and the really funny scene with Willow...), and Jason "Roswell" Behr is a really good guest star, and there're the vampire wannabees, and... ...but I think that "Passion" and "Becoming" and "Surprise"/"Innocence" are just =that= much better. No argument, either, that the 3rd season was more consistent, with more top-quality episodes. Still, the peaks of the 2nd season are still the peaks of the series. (Except maybe "Hush," now.) I did go back and look at your Top Ten list (which I never commented on), and in fact you and I are fairly close. Except of course you rate "The Wish" and "Doppelgangland" and "Angel" higher than I do. No argument, either, that "The Wish" is a very fine episode, and the specter of so Faith-like Buffy is indeed very disturbing. "Amends." I really liked what they did with the dreams (but I usually do), I liked bringing back Jenny Calendar in that odd way. And I thought even then (and think so more now) that it was intended as setup for =Angel=, and so in a sense isn't really a =Buffy= episode. But most of all, that last Buffy & Angel scene ("melodramatic confrontation," was that your phrase?). I've watched it umpteen times, and it always knocks me dead. The kind of scene you can only write with 40-odd episodes to draw on. Your mileage may vary. Generally: a couple brief comments upon watching "The 'I' in Team" again. Did anyone else notice (took me three viewings) what it was that Willow surreptitiously put on her bureau when she arrived just after Buffy "the morning after"? The crystal Tara tried to give her earlier. Did it strike anyone else as odd when Buffy was so delighted to have her boyfriend go to work with her? What happened to "my last office romance," as she said to Angel in "Graduation Day" I? This ties back into my slight bewilderment at her jumping with both feet back into the relationship with Riley after those feet were cold. And I didn't wonder about the vitamins, either; I was too busy being amused by Buffy's amusement. Makes disturbing sense, though. Jennifer: Two quick things (longer ideas later): I don't propose to play gatekeeper for this list. If you vouch for your friend that's good enough for me. I believe the method is to send e-mail to stillpt@smoe.org with "subscribe stillpt" or "subscribe stillpt- digest" in the body of the e-mail. I have, or have access to, those Tori Amos things. But thanks. By the way: where have I previously run into the phrase "Triumphal Chariot of Antimony"? It's an alchemical work; does John Crowley mention it? I just had the WB on (=Zoe= with Selma Blair who was very funny in =Cruel Intentions=--her TV show is mildly amusing), and they had a =different= promo for =Buffy= tomorrow night. More than met the eye in the previous promo... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 22:11:37 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: b/comments2/14 Hi! I'm working on 2 hours's sleep and a full day of work *after* traveling to the Midwest here, so my brain is in no shape to comment on the rest of Don's musings, but I do need to post the following correction: >Jennifer: Two quick things (longer ideas later): I don't propose to >play gatekeeper for this list. Actually, you send those commands to majordomo@smoe.org. If you try to send them to the list proper it'll just end up bouncing to me. Sincerely hoping that whatever station shows Buffy in Rockford, Illinois is on the lameass cable system in this hotel (I couldn't even watch the documentary for which my best friend did the costumes because THEY DON'T HAVE PBS), +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2000 22:22:34 -0500 From: meredith Subject: b/argh!!! Hi! I have just confirmed that I am going to miss the next two episodes. Whoever designed the cable system in this stupid hotel decided that 20 channels is all we deserve, and that doesn't leave room in their world for the WB (or PBS, for that matter, as I previously observed). WGN no longer carries Buffy (why, I don't know). (I hate my job.) What this means, naturally, is I won't be reading this list for the next two weeks. I can't risk the spoilers. If you have a list-administrivia question between now and then, please e-me directly.
