If I may, a few stoopid questions about where Angel is at now: I haven't been motivated to watch in several weeks, so now I'm *really* lost. - -- What happened to Doyle?! - -- What the hell is Wesley doing there?!? - -- How did Cordelia get stuck with Doyle's visions? - -- Why does she have a ghost in her apartment, and who is it (is it Doyle)? No need to clutter up the list with the info, private e-mail is fine too. Thanks! :) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2000 02:51:05 -0500 (EST) From: "David S. Bratman" Subject: b/Giles & Cordelia An interesting set of matched episodes tonight. Something both terrible and embarrassing, but in the end mostly just terribly embarrassing, happens to Giles/Cordelia, which hero (Buffy/Angel) and sidekick (Riley/Wesley) stops memorably and just in time. Interesting long-term plot developments: Buffy and Riley are becoming a team, with mutual respect for their particular abilities. If Riley doesn't have Buffy's slaying chops, Buffy doesn't have an army at her disposal. Giles is slowly accepting the idea of the Initiative (though the mysterious warnings from Ethan about Room 314 may derail this); Walsh is somewhat more quickly accepting the idea of the Slayer. What Giles and Walsh can't accept is each other, though if Walsh had known who Giles was at their first meeting she might have been less brusque. Not all of her insults were intentional (e.g. the one about the father figure). Over on the 9 pm hour, we see a significant step in adding Wesley to the team. Not only did he prove himself fairly useful, he now has several brownie points from Cordelia. Room 314 sounds a bit like Room 101 in _1984_, but I suspect it's going to turn out to be something more like the demonic equivalent of an atomic pile: a place where the Initiative is playing with things Man Was Not Meant To Know. Funniest moment: Ethan's interrupted soliloquy, so reminiscent of Spike's just before the Initiative captured him. The fact that he was really talking to us, the audience, and was so taken aback by the discovery that someone within the show could hear him, reminds me of the joke indulged in by many comic-book satirists, notably Dave Sim and Charles Schulz, of having characters who talk their own heroic comic-book captions to themselves while they do whatever it is they're doing. ------------------------------ End of stillpt-digest V2 #18 ****************************
