["D C" Subject: [none] I had the pleasure of seeing Shawn play last night at the South Shore Music Circus. I've never been to one of the Music Circus or Cape Cod Melody Tent things and was a little weirded out about seeing Shawn here...just because it doesn't seem like the kind of place our Shawn should play. I guess these places always seemed like the LOVE BOAT of performance centers to me. I mean...David Cassidy and Huey Lewis are on the line up here. Anyway...I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. Small, nice seating...and it was great to be outdoors on a nice summer night. The stage rotates and all that. Still, just a very weird place to see Shawn perform...to me anyway. But if this is where Shawn is going to be playing...then that's where I'm going. And she played the songs I really love...really felt like I won the song lottery last night! And yes...Shawn performed with back-up dancers. Well...one dancer. Her daughter (how CUTE is she!?!) came out in a little princess-like dress and sparkly/glitter shoes and danced/jumped around the revolving stage as Shawn sang "Diamond In The Rough". Perfect. This kid doesn't know the term "stage-fright" either. She was so cool. Really adorable. I saw her (Calli sp) at Newport a few years ago up close and personal...and if it's possible...she's even more adorable now. I was at last night's show with people I had gone to see Shawn with in 1988 (and on)...when we used to travel to Shawn shows in big groups. Many in that group worked together at the same Ad Agency...and thru the years many have moved away and we haven't ALL been together to see Shawn in the same place in a very long time. But people move back!..and other out-of-towners are here on vacation...so this was special. And as I watched Shawn and sat near one friend who I haven't seen in 10 years...it was strange to think that we were now back together and watching Shawn's daughter perform too! (Oh...and friends who were seating in a different section will be happy to know that the person RIGHT in front of ME (of All places!) who yelled to Shawn to stop talking and "Just Sing" did escape unharmed. Apparently there were rumors among my group of friends that I may have lunged over the row to wrestle her to the ground. Untrue! I'm a lover not a fighter...but that did come dangerously close to crossing my line. ; ) kidding! ) Shawn did chat a bit ...and held her own when this woman asked her to stop talking. Shawn said "NO!" (Hee heeeeeeee) "This is like therapy for me." Love it. Her voice sounded wonderful as usual. And I love watching her play guitar in these solo shows. She opened with a cover that I can't recall right now...and then played a set which included: Trouble, Diamond In The Rough, Ricochet, Shotgun, Matter Of Minutes, Steady On, Round Of Blues, Polaroids, Someday, Sing Me Back Home (Merle Haggard), Wichita Skyline, Sunny Came Home...and then came back for an encore, sat on a stool this time... and threw in a one-two punch of covers "I'll Be Back " and "If These Walls Could Speak" that nearly did me in. She KILLED me with those two songs. I just love her versions of them...and the were so incredible last night. Her voice had that heartbreakingly sad quality to it during those tunes. I almost Needed her to stop singing at that point. She also played "I Don't Know Why"...which I can't even remember the last time I heard her sing. So that was another very special treat! It was the perfect set list for this reunion of friends that was happening in my world. So many weird and funny moments that I won't go into here. Sorry for the long unedited ramble...but I'm in a hurry and will be without online access again for a bit so I wanted get this out quickly. Hope those of you who are lucky enough to see Shawn soon have as good a night as I did. Enjoy!
