I along with 9 other winners met Shawn at the WBOS studios this afternoon. The staff at WBOS are great. They gave us lunch, free tickets, Shawns' latest cd and a chance to speak with Shawn. Shawn was so nice and down to earth. She arrived in a limo provided by the station, jumped out of the car and carried her own guitar in and said when she saw us. "So you are the lucky winners?". In a sarcastic tone. Shawn was interviewed and sang 2 songs. Sonny Came Home and Bound to You. She sounded great and said she still loves singing Sonny because it can be a serious song or a funny song depending on the mood. So the 10 winners were there with a tv crew, a couple of photographers, station people and others. We were all crammed in and I was about 5 feet away from Shawn as she sang. It was too good to be true. It was like having her in your kitchen singing a tune. Then she signed autographs and let us take pictures with her and answered any and all questions. She said she is really into singing a lot of Paul Simon tunes lately. She spoke of how Boston is always a special place for her because this was the place that really gave her music a chance. Well I hope you all aren't bored with my gushing. Lisa if you get a chance please tell Shawn again how much the 10 winners appreciated her kindness and time. Now I am off to see her in concert. Who needs a band!!! She was amazing....and it was such a gorgeous night in Boston. Just perfect weather....a perfect show .....enjoyed with the greatest group of friends. (She told a story about playing at Passim when people got stuck outside in like 4 degree temp. waiting around hours just to get into her second show (ME!)......and how she played Polaroids for the first time there. It was a story I was telling friends hours before the show while we were having dinner. So it was a funny moment when Shawn started telling the exact same story at the show. ) She played a lot from the STEADY ON cd....and that was so appreciated. Worth the effort of fighting the "Big Dig" traffic just to hear her play "Steady On" last night. It sounded so great....and I think that song got the largest applause of the night from a loyal crowd. The crowd was very into everything she played...and showed it. I absolutely love her new cd and it was nice to hear "Matter Of Minutes" and "Anywhere You Go" live. I think "Bound To You" is going to be the next single (YAY!!!)....but she didn't play it. It's more of a rockin' band type song anyway. She mentioned shopping on Newbury St. earlier in the day (I bet it was the Betsy J. store ; ) )...and her show wardrobe was something between Lenny Kravitz and Prince. (I was waiting to hear "Holy River" but it didn't happen.) She looks like a million bucks...cool as $&*#. And her voice and guitar sounded wonderful. We could have stayed round the clock listening to her tell stories and play. And we almost did! She came out for three encores!!! Shawn, You are just the kewlest chick on earth. Thank you for another great show in Boston. Whenever you come.....and whatever you play......we will be there. The weather and the noise can sometimes ruin an otherwise good show. But that was not the case last night! Shawn looked and sounded terrific. If you have the chance to catch her this summer, by all means go for it. Shawn opened with my favorite song from the new record, "Anywhere You Go," but, as Dee said, Shawn made sure to include plenty of old favorites, including "Ricochet in Time," "Something to Believe In" and the closer "Diamond in the Rough." It was all good, even Shawn's very rough pass through "Tennessee." Rachel Jordan's Christian rock tune was also a hoot. I have to thank Sammy for scoring me some tickets at the last minute, otherwise I would've missed this wonderful show under a beautiful midsummer's night. Thanks! Shawn rules!
