I like it. It took me awile to appreciate it the way I do now, which I think has its own merits, but I think its a wonderful piece of self expression. I have been in a settled relationship for 7 years now and I can relate to so many of the songs on this album. The other night my partner and I were having an argument while the cd was on and it was very strange how her words were underlying our relationship at that moment. "Oh we try and try we cry baby cry, Everybody knows we get nowehere, again and again forever till the end, anywhere you go I will go there." I guess the production is a little more than I expected, but I don't think it detracts from the album for me. Her songwriting is the prevalent factor that comes through when I listen to it. The lack of hard rocking guitar makes me look forward to her live performances even more. Methinks that the list would be 5x as busy if this were an effort on par with AFSR, Fat City or Steady On. It could be that the pain in relationship thing is more conducive to the creative process than are joy and motherhood. That said, there are probably 3 or 4 tunes i think are as good as anything Shawn has ever done minus production. So adding to the problem no doubt is John Leventhal and trying to figure out why- other than ego, he would take out the signature sound of one of the very best folk-pop guitarists of our time. I envy those who are able to see her live on this tour, since it sounds as if some of that tasty guitar work is back even in the new tunes. - -Rob NP: David Gray: White Ladder (anyone seen this guy live?.. wow!) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
