I have loved everything Shawn has done so far, spare acoustic or more produced. But I really miss hearing Shawn's guitar on Whole New You- she is such a great guitar player. And I so agree with you about Steady Pull- it is an incredible album, the song with Neil (New Dress)is sooooo georgous. ******************************************** Kate Bennett www.katebennett.com sponsored by Polysonics www.polysonics.com Discover the Indies at Taylor Guitars: http://www.taylorguitars.com/artists/awp/indies/bennett.html ******************************************** - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I agree about the missing Shawn on the guitars. I was looking through the booklet the first time I bought the album, looking through for Shawn's name appearing beside little info such as acoustic guitar, and so on. Didn't see it. To my own opinion, I love this album...though not as much as AFSR and Fat City. Maybe it's hard for her to come up with something new after a long absence from her last studio album...5 years...to be exact. Nevertheless, I am still cheering for Shawn and actually I am getting the hand of the new album. Her unique and soulful voice kind of compensate everything. Don't you agree? I think it helps her make the transition to a solo w/ guitar performance - and - as mentioned she has a very distinct style that stands out in a very positive way. My favorite track right now is definately Mr. Levon - with Another Plane Went Down a close second. Both moving tunes - in a haunting way. I thought it was interesting that Shawn's 1996 interview with Songwriter/ Performer magazine mentioned that she and JL wrote Another Plane... after A Few Small Repairs was completed. I can't think of why they chose to leave it out--maybe someone can ask in the chat? (Unfortunately, not me, since I will be otherwise occupied at the time.) I do really like WNY, though. I think I need to give it more time before I can compare it with her other albums, but so far I am really impressed with a lot of the songs. As for Matter of Minutes-- This is a solid cut, and a good opening track. I like it; it isn't my favorite, but I think it is definitely a worthy song. My favorite line is "And I'm afraid of all this blood in my heart." Very poetic, very grabbing, very good. I think Shawn's voice sounds great on this song, and the lyrics, production, and melodies are all good. One last bit of rambliness...since we already have discussed the song Whole New You, I was wondering if people still wanted to use it for Song of the Week next week. If not, I will skip to Nothing Like You. Let me know if you have an opinion one way or the other...otherwise I will do as I please. :) lindsey - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
