Lisman" Subject: [s-r] FW: Retrospective Sampler [I tried sending this on Monday, but it doesn't seem to have posted -- so I'm trying again.] Hey, I've been a bit behind in my reading of the list lately, so all of this may already have been reported. If so, just delete and move on, if not... I was at Borders yesterday, where I stumbled upon a Shawn sampler, entitled Retrospective. It contains live versions of Sunny, Diamond, Round of Blues, and This Must Be the Place (Sunny and Round from KFOG, Live from the Archives (5 and II respectively (and that's how it lists them, the number for the one, the roman numeral for the other -- go figure)), Diamond from Sessions at West 54th, and This Must Be from Cover Girl). It also has the album version of Roger Wilco (which it says Shawn and John co wrote with Edie Brickell; I think we knew that from some of the recent postings). The cardboard CD holder states that Borders will have an exclusive version of Whole New You, containing the bonus track Fall Of Rome. You may recall that Fall Of Rome was written for AFSR, but was left off the album. It was performed during the full band tour that followed (the one where Shawn had no tee shirts on sale, Freedy Johnston opened up, and Shawn joined him for that incredible version of Western Sky). It was also used in the movie Edie and Penn, but I think this is the first CD release of the song, right? Anyway, I guess I know where I'm buying my copy of WNY. Now if we can all just make it 'til the 27th. And oh yeah, I saw Lucy Kaplansky Saturday night -- was able to make a good recording of it, too. No Shawn content, per se, but I just keep hoping that someday they'll release some of the Colvin-Kaplansky recordings from the old days; they are, bar none, two of my favorite voices.
