Yeah, I got quite excited about that. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Lisa said that Sony wouldn't allow the programme onto video. I'm sure that I saw some Shawn music and video clips on the MIHP site. That was until yesterday, the day that I got broadband and decided to have a proper look and listen. Now, all the clips are there for the other artists, but there aren't any for Shawn anymore, just slideshows etc. I'm sure there were clips or am I wrong ? If there were, have they been pulled because Shawn's is the current episode or has Sony decided to limit our consumption again ?? I checked out "Whole New You" from Nappie (and don't get on me, of COURSE I'm going to buy the album!). Did it strike anyone as just kind of "there"? It didn't strike my as anything "uniquely Shawn" musically or lyrically... I've really never been a fan of Shawn's albums compared to hearing her live (especially solo). Most likely, I'm guessing that this is because I was first drawn in by her striking guitar style (literally), and that is soooo often lost in the band mixes on the album. The live cuts on "Cover Girl" and some of "Live '88" are among my favorites for this reason. I hope she does another live release... Any news on whoever was offering dupes of the MIHPlaces video? Still love to arrange to get a copy/trade, etc. Not meaning to poo-poo my hero... ;) Dave - ------------------------------------------------------------------ there's a helluva universe next door. let's go. ~ e.e. cummings - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Whole New You is Shawn's first full-length recording since 1998's Holiday Songs & Lullabies and first album of all new original material since the three time Grammy winner's A Few Small Repairs, released in September 1996. Working again with her long-term collaborator producer/co-writer/multi-instrumentalist John Leventhal, Colvin has crafted a worthy successor to A Few Small Repairs: a new collection of songs investigating the nuances of the feminine psyche, coming to terms with the complexities of maturity, domesticity, human relationships and artistic growth. Whole New You is produced by John Leventhal and features ten new songs written by Shawn and Leventhal and an eleventh, "Roger Wilco," penned by Colvin, Leventhal, and Edie Brickell. Tracks on Whole New You include: "A Matter Of Minutes," "Whole New You," "Nothing Like You," "Anywhere You Go," "Another Plane Went Down," "Bonefields," "Mr. Levon," "Roger Wilco," "Bound To You," "One Small Year," and "I'll Say I'm Sorry Now." Shawn Colvin has kept busy since winning two Grammys (Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year) in 1997 for "Sunny Came Home," a track from A Few Small Repairs. (Shawn earned her first Grammy in 1990 when her debut album, Steady On, picked up the Best Contemporary Folk Recording award.) She became a first-time mother in July 1998 and followed up A Few Small Repairs with Holiday Songs & Lullabies, a project inspired by the Maurice Sendak-illustrated "Lullabies & Night Songs." "Nothin' On Me," a track from A Few Small Repairs, was chosen as the theme music for the NBC sitcom "Suddenly Susan." She sang "I Don't Want To Live On The Moon" on the Sesame Street special, "Elmopalooza" and her version of the song appeared on the Elmopalooza album and home video on Sony Wonder. Shawn recorded a rendition of "The Chain" which appears on a Fleetwood Mac tribute album, and a version of Karl (World Party) Wallinger's "When The Rainbow Comes" on the #1 smash Armageddon - The Album. She sang "But Beautiful" for Don Henley's "Stormy Weather 98," a concert of classic torch songs benefiting Walden Woods. Shawn was honored to participate in TNT's "An All Star Tribute to Joni Mitchell," where she performed "Chelsea Morning," "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Amelia" with her friend Mary Chapin Carpenter. Shawn has also contributed vocals to recent albums by Bila Fleck (alongside Jon Anderson of Yes), Shawn Mullins, Edwin McCain and James Taylor. Most recently, Shawn dueted with Sting on the song "One Day She'll Love Me," which appears on the soundtrack to the Walt Disney film "The Emperor's New Groove." In the summer of 1999, Shawn toured the United States in a "group" comprised of herself, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Bruce Hornsby. The Boston Herald celebrated the group as " a band that set the gold standard for American pop rock." A year later, she opened for Sting on several dates on his summer tour. Her "appearance" as church singer "Rachel Jordan" on "The Simpsons" in the "Alone Again, Natura-Diddly" episode created a character that proved pivotal in helping poor Ned Flanders to recover from the sudden and tragic loss of his wife, Maude. Shawn will reprise the role in a return appearance later this spring. She has numerous television and film appearances in the offing for 2001 including "The Chris Isaak Show," the Boston Pops "Holiday Pops" (taped in December 2000) and "Music In High Places," a new international television series and Web adventure that takes recording artists to some of the most ancient and intriguing sites on earth. Shawn's episode, which debuted on Friday, January 5, traces her explorations of Bora Bora, the fishing village of Tautira and other locales in Tahiti. The episode airs as a DTV "Freeview" for the entire month of January. She makes a cameo appearance as a priest in the forthcoming MGM romantic comedy "Breakers," directed by David Mirkin ("Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion"), starring Ray Liotta, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Sigourney Weaver and performs two songs on "The Little Bear Movie - Wild Bear," a direct-to-video animated release of a Maurice Sendak story. Beginning last spring, Shawn, an avid athlete, participated in five sprint-distance triathalons: the Danskin Triathalons in Austin and Boston, the Nautical Triathalon in Malibu, the Austin Trilogy Triathalon, and California's Bonelli Park Triathalon.. In each of the events, which involve swimming, bicycling and running, Shawn placed between 2nd and 5th in her age group. Shawn received a sponsorship from Saab for the competitions and sang the National Anthem before four of them (Boston, Malibu, Austin & Bonelli Park). Over the last year Shawn has continued to make appearances on behalf of some of her favorite philanthropic organizations, including Planned Parenthood, Voters for Choice, the NRDC and various children's rights organizations. She has also supported many local organizations in her hometown of Austin, including Sweet Mary Aid, the Mother's Milk Bank, the Austin Children's Center and the Austin Museum of Art. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
