Very little to talk about and doubt about what's in the pipeline. So, I hear myself think. In this glorious land of ours, the state owned broadcaster the BBC, decides to run repeats when there's nothing new to show. So, let's delve back into, I think 1997, (FADE TO BLACK AND WHITE) after a furious debate about a very appreciative fan (and contributor) who painted pictures of his idols and placed them on stage while they were playing. He decided to leave the list, after which someone rewrote the lyrics to Polaroids and sent them to the list and Jean managed to give a copy to Shawn ! Here it is : Haemorrhoids Please less junk mail to me Precede the crap with NSC All us together with Some needle and threats Masters in the put-down Why always wear a frown In our own small town On this list Will it be me or you Blackened, insulted too Leaving and saying we’re through Painting at home E-mailing from home to you Laughing back home at you Bragging back home to you I was so wary when The artistic American Thinner and brush in hand Stepped up on the floor I said don’t play frisbee With that painting in front of me But nothing surprises me anymore But cubists in Germany Fauves in their galleries Lie drunk on their mattresses In stained underwear He might now be history Still shrouded in mystery But his paintings seem fine to me And as our Nation’s flag unfurls To a chorus from the Spice Girls Them all in their uniforms Not very much Hearing that talentless five That group just cannot survive We've got all we need we cried And don't come back Thinking they had it made A song in the shit parade Knee deep in accolades Geri’s bum like a pear Their success just an accident They left without incident Vanished into thin air Now I am always amazed Crap can fill up a page Trivia like recent days In fact two weeks But the mailing list we want to keep From boredom to music- speak But it makes me remember how cheap Words can be And the incident you all write of Is such hypocritical stuff Like begging for blonde when You’re a natural brunette Now Big Hair’s too young to dye But one day I’m sure she’ll sigh The Clairol’s there on the ledge But I had a dream last night Of fans fed up with this wank Out on the edge of rhyme Risking ridicule We laughed as we rocked and reeled But so soon our fate was sealed Coming to rest with this ship of fools But he just took polaroids Of her smile in the light At the start of the Californian gig And after he finished painting her He threw his work up to her And it said “Bet your fucking glad I’m not a sculptor” Having a bit of writer's block on my version of The Facts About Jimmy "The Facts About Sony", but soon I hope. PS I see the smoe.org Shawn homepage is no longer. Is this the beginning of the end ? Let's all sing together now... "memories light the corners of my mind......" I just had to jump in here and tell you about MY painting stalker. Jean knows the story because the bulk of it took place almost immediately after our list incident with the Shawn painting stalker, and we had a good laugh about it. I don't think I ever got a chance to tell you guys! When we first started performing as Lady Jane Grey, we had a weekly gig at a coffeehouse in a little tiny town here in Texas filled with nothing but cowboys. So we were surprised when this guy who was basically an old hippie started showing up to hear us play. He would sit right up front and just bask in our songs (a musician's dream fan!), he wanted to know everything there was to know about the songs and the music... just really into it. But at the same time, there was always something just not "quite right" with him... he had a creepy element that we couldn't really put a finger on. Then, one week, he came in while we were playing and proceeded to take thousands of pictures of us from every angle... even lying on the floor to try and get a few shots... it was quite odd considering we were this "nobody band"... he was acting like we were the Rolling Stones or something. My husband (who is the other half of LJG) was convinced that this guy had a thing for me, and I said no, ew, that can't be possible. So the next week, he was there before we were, and when we walked in, the first thing he said to me was, "You're being painted." I said, "Excuse me?" He said, "I am painting a picture of you, but your lips are giving me trouble. But when I finish I want you to come over and see it." My immediate reaction, of course, was to run far away... hello, Mr. Creepy! And we had literally just gone through the whole painting stalker thing with the guy on the list, so I was totally freaked out. Well, the coffeehouse closed a couple weeks later, and I didn't see Mr. Creepy again because we got busy with gigs and just never really ran into him. But 3 months ago, we were playing at a festival, and guess who came wandering up to me?! He said, "Well, I live right here on the festival grounds. I still have the painting of you in my room, and it's done. You should come over and I'll show it to you." AAAAAAAGH! Unfortunately, it started raining and I just never made it over to his house. Anyway, I just wanted to share because I don't think I ever got to tell ya'll about it (If I did and just don't remember, please forgive me. It's been a busy year!)....... By the way, I'm on the Rosanne Cash BB on AOL, and she mentioned that she was hoping that John Leventhal would be done with Shawn's project soon so that they could start on hers.... it was good to hear that the end of the project is at least being discussed! Well, hope I didn't bore any of ya'll.... sorry if I did. Ciao, Sarah .....................
