I am looking for a copy of Kelly Willis's rare 4-song EP, "Fading Fast." It was released only in Texas, due to legal obstacles from A&M records. Any of my fellow Shawn brothers or sisters got any ideas? Austinites in particular. Are there used/rare CD stores there that could find me a copy? OK so there's NSC, but since Kelly Willis co-writes with John Leventhal pretty regularly, at least I claim a *second degree* connection to Ms. Colvin, right? Or would that amke it third degree? Also, a trivia quiz: What famous band leader from the '60s created A&M records with a friend? Hint: His last name accounts for the "A" in A&M. They wanted to create an artist-friendly label, and by most accounts, they succeeded admirably. They sold it off several years back, however, and now it's just a money-focussed company like all the other (major) labels. Sigh. -Meri- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Long time no see! You may want to check out Waterloo Records in Austin... they have a lot of stuff that you can't really find anywhere else. Hey, they even carry the Lady Jane Grey CD (shameless plug!) ;) Seriously, that would be my bet. There is also a Tower Records in Austin, but since it's a big corporate entity your chances may not be as good. But try them too.... I have to confess, when I was just a wee lad, I used to sneak off with my Dad's copy of that "Herb Albert of the Tijuana Brass" album with the muy attractive woman wearing absolutely nada but for a literal mountain of whipping cream. I was probably eight years old, mind you, but this is one of the iconic memories from that era that has stayed with me into my forties. That was *well* before my post-feminist-oh-so-sensitive-man days, mind you. The Ohio Players (a funk band from the '70s with similarly racy album covers) clearly learned a thing or two about marketing from old Herb, don't you think? - - Meri - - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Wow. I remember Herb Albert on 8-track. It was olive green, but i do not remember the label as vividly as our friend, Meri. hehhheh. I do remember A&M being a label for a bunch of my favorite artists... i had about a bajillion 45rpms and the A&M logo is very clear in my recollections. The Carpenters were on it, i do believe. Kelly Willis is doing great here on Austin radio; she did well on KGSR listener favorites... and consequently gets played all the time. It's great. The first time i saw her was in North Carolina at Lilith Fair, the first year and the best year of Lilith. She kicked some country butt that day. Very talented singer. Meri, i'll see if waterloo can get the EP you are after. Stay tuned, k? I wondered if any of you small repairers have seen suzanne vega in concert as she will be appearing here verrrry soon. kind of expensive seats and i'm wondering if i should see the show. I'm a 99% go on this one, but want to get a feel from you guys about how she performs. Meanwhile, here is the survey info that i promised: Diamond in the Rough was picked the most often for favorite song with 7 votes, but 39 different songs were mentioned, and 2 abstained from voting. Polaroids was next in line, followed by Round of Blues. When asked about favorite song, one person said, "Hell! All of them!" Average age: 27.4 eldest: 44 youngest: 15 65% female most times seen in concert by a single small repairer: 30+ one day i will post all the different states and countries represented, but too many to type in for me tonight. i'll save that for a future post. yes? we'll do a new survey soon, so start thinking about your favorite shawn song! take care everybody! jean - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. That explains a lot... no wonder I feel so damn average! Kat - 27.4 year old s-rer... well, 27.37 without the rounding, or within 10 days of accuracy (yes I worked it out... we average types have nothing better to do with our time) ;) P.S. Who the hell among you has seen Shawn more than 30 times??? And do you have a spare room so I can come live with you and jump on your bandwagon every day? - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
