Does anyone here remember this? I gather from an article about Cover Girl at http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/ShawnColvin/cgpromo.htm that at about this time she was the lead singer with The Buddy Miller Band. Are there any recordings of her with Buddy? I love his song about land mines called '100 Million Little Bombs'. I don't think I had ever heard it, but I remember us talking about it a long time ago on the list. So where did that come from? A single? It's a great tune! I just read a long backlog of digests, having been pretty much off-line for quite a while. And I just have to say: Joni Mitchell is God. Not just a goddess, but *The* Goddess Supreme. If there were any doubt on that subject, it was certainly erased the night of that tribute show. The juxtaposition of her performance with the efforts of so many wonderful artists to pay her tribute was like meeting a real person after living for years amongst the Shadow People. Admittedly, I am hardly impartial on the subject of Joni or Shawn, but my goodness, the woman is deep! She's also a major trip, of course, with affected jive and ego busting out of every seam! But at least she has the talent to back it up. What an amazing woman. My kids are a little puzzled that I keep crying when I watch the tape of the show. They're like, "dad, it's just a bunch of people singing!" But there's a great many years of my life tied up with that woman--and a great many lonely years when the most brilliant phases of her work was dismissed out of hand by critics and the public alike. So I can't help but cry to see her recognized by her peers in so sincere and heartfelt a fashion. (Unlike the R&R Hall of Fame induction, which seemed to be more about not wanting to look bad for ignoring her.) I could have kissed Shawn for her words to Joni before the song Amelia. Of course, I'd be willing to kiss Shawn on just about any pretext! heh heh And no, I don't relegate Shawn to the Shadow People! *No one* (in pop music) comes even close to Joni's stature, but Shawn certainly stands far far above the rest of the field. And unlike Joni, Shawn is a human being just like me! On my good days. -Meri- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
