Lang - Help Me Cassandra Wilson - The Dry Cleaner from Des Moines Sweet Honey in the Rock - Circle Game Shawn Colvin & Mary Chapin Carpenter - Amelia Richard Thompson - Black Crow Elton John - Free Man in Paris Diana Krall - Case of You Joni - Both Sides Now Reading great reports on the Joni list of Shawn and Chapin's duets, particularly 'Amelia'. Here's a relevant paragraph from one of today's posts : >here are a couple of my musical highlights. shawn colvin and mary chapin >carpenter performed together several times during the evening, but their >version of 'amelia' was the best of their contributions. klein was the >musical director of the evening, greg liesz and mark isham were in the house >band so this sounded not so different from versions we've heard joni do live >recently, but it was so satisfying to hear carpenter and colvin with their >distinct voices trade verses and harmonize with each other on voice and >guitar (both on acoustic). i'm not sure how this will play on tnt, but i >think it will be a favorite of listers. Hoping there will be some reviews from people on this list. Hi awl, I need some help with the song "Between Two Worlds" from the Grace of My Heart soundtrack. I want to send a copy of this to a friend who's in a tough spot at the moment, and this wonderful song seems quite appropros... 1) Does anyone know who wrote this song? 2) In trying to transcribe it, does anyone know what the lines of the bridge are? They're something like... Weak shadow of death across bold bitter (????) (?????) symbols of my funeral silk Reflections of you in each ????? rain Still you stay with me like a knife in my brain I know some fellow Shawn-o-nut will know this. Thanks :) Dave - --------------------------------------------------------------- listen: there's a hell of a good universe next door. let's go. ~ e.e. cummings - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. I think (THINK being the operative word here) that Larry Klein wrote the song... he wrote lots of the music in the movie (including the title track). As far as the lyrics to the bridge, I'm not sure. Jean? We need your expertise! Speaking of, does anyone know if there is a version of "God Give Me Strength" with the girl singing it? The only version on the soundtrack is Elvis Costello's version, and it's just not as good........ Hope this helps! A couple of years ago Joh DeFord sent the following e-mail to the list about that song. I saved a printout of it, so I dug it out and scanned it in on my new scanner that I just bought two days ago and ran it thru the OCR software and it worked! Here it is. Between Two Worlds -- From: Grace of my Heart Soundtrack Performed by Shawn Colvin Written by Gerry Goffin, Louise Goffin and David Baerwald Off in the distance A cool wind is blowing I ' m not who I was And I'm not where I'm going I ' s so tired of knowing That there ' s no way of knowing You left me stranded Between two worlds You turned me into a mixed up girl You left me stranded between two worlds Two worlds Is it nicer where you are? Do you ever think of me? Is it easier now That you don't have to love me? Like a fool I allowed you To coddle and drug me And then you left me stranded Between two worlds You turned me into a mixed up girl You left me stranded between two worlds Two worlds A weak shadow of death Across a bowl of bitter milk I borrowed symbols On my funeral silk Reflections of you In each fall's drooling rain And still you stay with me Like a knife in my brain You left me stranded Between two worlds You turned me into a mixed up girl You left me stranded between two worlds Two worlds Two worlds John DeFord . .
