Great description, Sarah. I can really imagine that. Can't wait to have the same experience on my trip over the Rockies on the way to Saskatoon! Anybody got any other suggestions for good mountain-driving music? >I was actually depressed because she was so good >and I felt I could never measure up (funny to learn later >that she wrote "Kill the Messenger" after having a >similar experience seeing another artist!).... That song is about Sib, isn't it? I really like her website and check it out from time to time. A few months ago I couldn't sleep so I got up, turned on the computer and went to www.sheeba.com - to be greeted with a message that said "Please go away and try again a little later on. I'm currently under the table trying to fix something. Love Jane Siberry." Her live gigs (I've seen two) are very special in a weird and wonderful way and her song 'Hockey' is a definite contender for one of my Desert Island Discs. >I was able to see her 4-5 more times in that same venue, >each time it was more fun because it was the exact same >crowd and we all knew each other and kept the jokes with >Shawn going from show to show. Very cool vibe back in >those days. What great memories. Wish I could have been part of that. Was this at 'The Bluebird Cafe' by any chance? I did one of those 10 minute Monday night spots there about six years ago and really loved the place. Really friendly audience. I too enjoy Shawn's 'running gags'. I remember at one London gig (the second Jazz Cafe, I think), she had just come off tour with Chris Isaac, and his 'Ayooooo' yodel became the theme for the night. Very funny. Really enjoying all the posts in this thread. More!! I've seen speculation on the jmdl that Shawn might sing 'Amelia' and 'Night Ride Home'. Wouldn't that be great. Me, I'd love to hear her do 'A Case of You'. Anyone have any preferences? A Case of You would be in my top 3, along with People's Partys, and maybe Electricity or See You Sometime. Whatever she does, a Joni cover by Shawn is a dream come true for me! And Lisa from AGF thoughtfully spake: >I just hate to see someone making >pronouncements about the state of Shawn's >career without any real knowledge of the >intricacies. Right on Lisa! Thanks for the great post. The apocolyptic predictions of the demise of this list and of Shawn's touring and creativity were depressing me. The best artists never release on some sort of a schedule. Leave that to groups like N-Sync. And let's quit blaming everything on motherhood. The list is slow?.. it's the baby, no new material or gossip?.. it's the baby. Global warming?.. it's the baby. I'll wager that the experience will make Shawn an even more interesting songwriter. And absence makes the heart grow fonder. With all this 'first times', I thought I'd say a word or two. I saw the movie "It Could Happen To You" and I thought it was terribly sweet, I had to buy the soundtrack. There she was, Shawn and her voice. She sang a duet with Tony Bennett, "Young at Heart". And then there was her magical "Round of Blues". I fell in love with that. I had never really heard anything like that. It felt like a totally different world or dimension... I began asking everyone if they knew who she was; many replied, "who's he?". Then I found her Fat City album on cassette. I couldn't wait before I found the CD so I bought it (it's in the car now). The whole album was great. "Round of Blues" remains as my fave Colvin song. Also, I guess I can say Fat City is probably my favorite S.C. album, but it really is hard to decide. *smile* I eventually got the CD, loaned it out to every single soul I knew and am now wondering where it can be. Well, I'm sure that lucky person's happy listening to her now. :-) Gillian Megan Tan *zip lips close* ______________________ E-mail @music.com It's free! It's hot! It's yours! Hi fellow Colvinites: My first time with Shawn -:)(I wish ) was a little different. A co-worker where I use to work use to bring in music for the night shifts and he occasionally brought Shawn in. It was Fat City and Polaroid's that I first heard and loved the song but I never really got a chance to hear the whole cd in a proper setting. Then a couple of years later I guess he brought in AFSR and he left the cd for the weekend shift which I was working alone. I listened to the cd and I could not turn it off. I just cranked it up and listened to it continually for 2 straight 12 hour shifts. Then I was hooked. I started buying all her cds and when I heard she was coming to Boston I had to go see her live so I jumped on a plane and flew down to see her. Wow what an experience. I kick myself that I did not try and get her autograph because there was only 1 way into the Orpheium theatre in Boston so I could have staked the place out but then I would have felt a bit creepy. -:) I saw her a year later in southern Maine with Larry and Stewart and that was another great experience. I have her appearances on the BBC on tape(bootleg) and I also have quite a bit of her on tv shows, Charlie Rose interview, TNN profile , Austin City Limits. I can't wait for her next cd and tour. Anywise I would really love to see her solo in a small club but that is probably a pipe dream. Love her sense of humour and her rapport with the audience. You can tell she is a natural entertainer.
