Following on from and linked to two of the recent quiz threads, Buddy Miller is playing in London on Feb 14. Okay, okay, I know that's London, UK not London, Ontario:-) Has anybody out there ever seen him live? I know Julie Miller's stuff, but must admit I bought my ticket more in the hope that she'll turn up too:-) Obscure UK trivia question.... Which Radio 1 DJ's final broadcast show featured Shawn, and which other Chapin linked artist did she meet there? (Clue: the DJ was something of a morning institution...) I only considered albums released in 1999. 10. (tie) Ray Mason Band-Castenets (Ray is a local legend in Northampton, Mass. this is a great CD of guitar based, vocal pop-Marshall Crenshaw fans would love this CD-if enough people are interested, I'll post the address as to where to get it). 10. (tie) Hot Club of Cowtown-Tall Tales 9. Tim O'Brien-The Crossing 8. B.B. King-Let the Good Times Roll 7. Catie Curtis-A Crash Course in the Roses 6. Respond-A Compilation by Boston Women to Benefit Respond, Inc (a couple of people that I discovered on this album include Merrie Amsterburg, Jess Klien, and Kris Delmhorst-this is a great collection) 5. Bleeker St., Greenwich Village in the 60s 4. Steve Earle and the Del McCoury Band-The Mountain 3. Julie Miller-Broken Things 2. Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt-Western Wall:The Tuscon Sessions 1. Kelly Willis-What I Deserve Favorite Song of the Year-Smart Brown Handbag's This and Every Sunday I have a question-last night on TNN, George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Lorrie Morgan sang "That's the Way Love Goes." I know I've heard Shawn do this song. Has she recorded it on some compilation and does anyone know who wrote it? It's driving me nuts not knowing the answer to this question. Does anyone know if Shawn has sung a song with Dave Matthews? I swear I heard a song on the college radio in my area that sounded exactly like the both of them. By the way, I saw Shawn at the Ann Arbor Folk Fest. She was, of course, great. She sang two new songs which were amazing. One was about post-partum depression. Leave it to her to write a song about that! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Hmm.... 10. Come On Now Social- Indigo Girls. Lots of people didn't like this one, but I thought it was pretty good. I like their first, self titled album better, though. 9. Mirrorball- Sarah McLachlan. Very, very, very good. This is my third Sarah album (Fumbling Towards Esctasy and Surfacing are my other ones) and this is the best of the three. 8. Mary Chapin Carpenter- Party Doll and Other Favorites. Fantastic. A nice variety. Live songs, fast songs, slow songs.... 7. Jackson Browne- Running on Empty. I bought this as an intro to his music so I would know some of it at the Supergroup concert I went to. Excellent. It has "Stay", featuring the unnaturally high vocals of David Lindley! 6. Jonatha Brooke- Live. Very good. The best tracks are definitely "Where Were You", "Blood From a Stone" and "In the Gloaming". Jonatha has one of the voices that, when heard live, put the studio recordings to shame. 5. Sheryl Crow- The Globe Sessions. Wonderful! I love Sheryl, but hadn't boughten any of her albums until 1999. No good excuse really. 4. Sheryl Crow- Sheryl Crow. Her best. I bought "Tuesday Night Music Club" first, and didn't like it as much as I thought I would, so I was weary of this one. I LOVE it though! 3. Mary Chapin Carpenter- Stones in the Road- I've always admired Chapin, but didn't get any of her albums until this past summer. Fantastic! Like Running on Empty, I bought it as a reintroduction to her music in preparation to a concert, very good, both the album and the concert. 2. Mary Chapin Carpenter- Come On, Come On- As was Stones in the Road, an intro to the concert. I like this one better, though. A big variety. It also has the Indigo Girls and Shawn singing back up. 1. Jackson Browne- The Pretender. Only eight songs, but they were eight damn good songs! I swear, I listened to it about ten times the day I got it. Just Shawn and guitar on the song. It has other great cover versions and originals on the CD by Lucinda Williams, Janis Ian, Richard Thompson, Jimmy Webb, Luka Bloom and others, 15 tracks in all. It was distributed on Razor and Tie records and should still be in print. Message-ID: <38.1888d8f.25c62c5a@aol.com> Hey, Everybody! Here's a few tidbits on the CD front: Sony/Legacy has released a four-CD set entitled "The Ultimate Grammy Box" featuring 73 Grammy-winning tracks (from about the mid-1950s to the present) that the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has apparently deemed to be the "cream of the crop." The Blonde One is included with "Stones In The Road," as is Shawn Colvin with "Sunny Came Home." Trisha Yearwood's new album "Real Live Woman" (due March 28th) opens with an MCC/Kim Richey collaboration, "Where Are You Now." Mary Chapin and Kim sing harmonies on the track. Finally, Sony/Legacy will be reissuing a remastered edition of MCC's "Come On Come On" in late April or May as another in its "American Milestones" series. Reportedly, the reissue will include additional "bonus" tracks.
