Ok, Shawn played w/Buddy Miller in the Buddy Miller Band, and Julie is married to him. Right? If you want to get more far-fetched, you could say that Lucy Kaplansky covered a Julie Miller song in the Cry Cry Cry album, and that Shawn and Lucy used to sing together :) So yeah, I know too much about this. ~lindsey > Bit easy > > Answer here > > > http://www.daddario.com/DADDARIO_ENDORSEES/shawnCol.html > > Nice quote on the page : > > > "Calling Shawn Colvin a folk singer is like calling the White House public > housing..... etc. > --Cleveland Plain Dealer > > Currently listening to Julie Miller's album Broken Things (one of the best > I've ever heard) > > > > My bit of trivia > > What is the Shawn/Julie connection ???? > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: > To: > Sent: 29 January 2000 01:23 > Subject: [s-r] Trivia > > > > What kind of guitar strings does Shawn use? > > ________________________________________________________________ > > YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! > > Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! > > Try it today - there's no risk! Right? And if you wanna go into even MORE detail, then Shawn took over from Julie as lead singer of the Buddy Miller Band when Julie moved away from NYC (to LA possibly?), then the band came to a halt when Buddy also left to move back west (or wherever) and marry Julie... and since then, Shawn has sung backup on at least one of Julie's albums (possibly more but I can only think of Orphans & Angels off the top of my head). I have no idea where I accumulated all that info, except for the last part since I have the album, so its possible as always that i'm making it up. Can anyone confirm these to be the facts? Dont say i didnt warn you all about my trivia obsession.... Kat p.s. Lindsey, have you just had some y2k issues kick in with the date on your computer or is it just me? i'm seeing 29 Jan 100.... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body. Kasey Chambers - The Captain (see extended rave below if you're interested) 2. Alison Krauss - Forget About It, So Long So Wrong and Now That I've Found You (what can I say, she hooked me on first listen and I've been playing catch up ever since... note to Sara: now playing 1, 2 & 8!!) 3. Kelly Willis - What I Deserve (she's playing in Sydney on Tuesday!! good for her! and me if i can make it..) 4. Rebecca Martin - Thoroughfare (God love Rebecca, she also sent me a Once Blue promo CD for nothing as consolation since the release date for Thoroughfare was pushed way back and I'd already ordered it from her web site...) 5. everything Carol Noonan has ever done (all 3 of them - thanx Lisa for the tip on this one!) 6. everything Lynn Miles has ever done (all 2 of them - and thanx again Lisa!!) 7. Stacey Earle - Simple Gearle (yet *another* Lisa pick... this is a girl who knows her music) 8. Catie Curtis - A Crash Course in Roses (better than her first two i think) 9. The Damnations TX - Half Mad Moon (i just LOVE this album... any lucky austonians seen them live?) 10. Lyle Lovett - Step Inside this House, Live in Texas, Road to Ensenada (same story as with Alison Krauss) ok, ten be damned, can I keep going? i had such a good year for music! 11. Julie Miller - Broken Things (altho i think i prefer her original version of 'All My Tears'...) 12. Toni Price - Low Down and Up (if I'd done these in more of an order of preference, this prob would have been higher - this woman can do no wrong and i was *totally* stoked to be able to see her happy hour show in austin last january) lucky 13. Mary Chapin Carpenter - Party Doll... (what can you say about Chapin? also one of the best live shows i saw last year, even for the diva song alone - thanx John!) I could probably go on, but I'll leave it there.... keep reading if you want to know about Kasey Chambers, otherwise stop here. kat ;) ok so - Kasey Chambers - my 1999 choice for my annual 'support australian music' rant - she's the lead singer of her family's band, the Dead Ringer Band, who have put out four albums so far - The Captain is her solo debut. She's all of 23 years old and has a voice to DIE for. She has infamously been said to have made Lucinda Williams cry upon hearing her sing... her and the band are classfied as country, but its what I'd call the good kind of country (hey lets start that Nashville debate again, that was fun!). If you like people like Lucinda, Julie Miller, Steve Earle, Emmylou, Lyle Lovett etc, you're pretty guaranteed to like Kasey. In fact, Julie and Buddy Miller both have supporting roles on The Captain (yet another Julie connection! where does it end??), and Sir Steven of Earle himself invited young Kasey up on stage to sing with him at the East Coast Blues Festival here last year or the year before (time's a blur). She won last years ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Assoc) award for best country album and was also nominated for best female singer (the general category, not country) but of course was sadly and wrongly beaten by Natalie Imbruglia or someone (cant remember). I went to her album launch last year and she is also awesome live - she sang a gorgeous solo acoustic version of Iris Dement's 'No Time To Cry' (her very favouritest song of all time apparently) which had me absolutely spellbound and understanding why Lucinda Williams was moved to tears. Anyway, what I'm saying is - she's DAMN GOOD!! If you're interested, check out some of the reviews at her web site at http://www.kaseychambers.com/. You probably still cant get the album in the USA or anywhere else but you can order it securely from a couple of places here - Music World (http://www.musicworld.com.au/) or ChaosMusic (http://www.cmm.com.au/) although I'd recommend Music World for infinitely better service despite the less flashy web site. And take note that the initial price you see of ~$29.95 is only what we aussies pay (taxes etc) and the rest of the world gets it much cheaper. So go buy it - in the unlikely event that you regret it, i'll take all the blame and you can throw it at me as hard as you can. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from the list send mail to majordomo@smoe.org with 'unsub scribe small-repairs' in the message body.
