As always. So those who ain't got the time, scroll to the bottom of my mail to see what I have to say. It's important!!!* _______________________________ Hey guys, I made a couple of... you could say, discoveries, this Christmas. First, I found a CD entitled "A Different Kind of Christmas" under the Sony Music label. I took a look at the many different names and noticed the last track, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" performed by Shawn Colvin. That one's a little jazzy, not very Colvin, but still beautiful. I can't be sure when it was recorded, but the compilation itself is produced in 1994. It's not bad but I've been listening to only 5 out of 12 tracks on the CD. There's Bruce Cockburn's rendition of "Mary Had A Baby" which is pretty neat too. And the second and better (to me) discovery, is this 1995 Curtis Stigers album entitled "Time Was" under the Arista label. I had a hunch about that guy so I went on to do some research and found out that Shawn Colvin had credit on vocals on that album. So I went right back to the store to get the CD. And then I was even more excited to hear her singing a duet with Stigers on the title track!! It wasn't just her voice in the background like it usually is on Patty Larkin's, Mary Chapin's or James Taylor's albums. It's so cool! "Time Was"… Great song, especially with her voice on it. Other than for that track, the CD is worth buying too. He's really not bad. If you listen to pop, you might find the third track on his album familiar. He was the original singer of "Everytime You Cry" which is by now covered by John Farnham with Australian band, Human Nature. Well, besides "Time Was", I like the tracks, "Keep Me From The Cold" (has a Rosanne Cash feel to it) and "It Never Comes"(I imagine Aaron Neville would kill to cover this). Well, that's it. I haven't found these recordings on any other CDs. This is a lucky find for me. But I guess we all know that she's got a song here and a song there, on this soundtrack and that compilation... Anyway, I'm gonna put the lyrics to "Time Was" on my web site now. Hope you all had a great Christmas! And may you have a good new year ahead, listening to as much Colvin as you can get your hands on. I know I will. By the way, I'd say the new millenium starts in 2001... ;-) Gillian M. T. (who can't shut up) ______________________________________________ Okay. Those who want just the quick info, here it is. Two CDs with Shawn recordings not available on her own albums.
